Personalize your news settings

You can set up Google News to show the topics you want to see and give you news based on where you are.

Choose topics to see stories about

You can set your sections list to show topics you’re interested in.

  1. Go to news.google.com.
  2. At the bottom of the "Sections" list on the left, click Manage sections.
  3. Enter topics you’re interested in. For example, to see stories about space, enter terms like space, astronomy, Mars.
  4. When you’re done, click Add section.

Remove or edit your sections

  1. Go to news.google.com.
  2. At the bottom of the "Sections" list on the left, click Manage sections.
    • To remove a section, under "Active sections," click Hide.
    • To reorder sections, under "Active sections," click a section title and drag it to a new place in the section list.

See stories suggested for you

You might see suggestions based on your Google Web & App Activity and YouTube activity. That includes topics you’ve searched for, pages you clicked from the search results page, and topics you’ve asked to get updates on from Google Now.

You can manage your interests to get more stories on your favorite topics.

Respond to suggested stories
  1. Go to news.google.com. You might be asked to sign in.
  2. At the top, click For you.
  3. To express your interest in a suggested topic, under a story’s title, click Interested in [topic]?
    • To see more stories about the topic, click thumbs up.
    • To stop seeing stories about the topic, click thumbs down.
Add an interest
  1. Go to news.google.com. You might be asked to sign in.
  2. At the top right, click Settings Settings and then Your interests.
  3. Enter topics you’re interested in. You’ll see stories about those topics in the "For you" section.
Remove an interest
  1. Go to news.google.com. You might be asked to sign in.
  2. At the top right, click Settings Settings and then Your interests.
  3. Next to an interest, click thumbs down.

Change or add a location

The local weather and news sections show info for your city or town.

  1. Go to news.google.com. You might be asked to sign in.
  2. At the top right, click Settings Settings and then Local sections.
  3. Add a location or reorder or delete your current locations.

See news for a different country and language

Google News gives you results for a specific country and language based on the language of your browser or computer address.

If you switch to another language and personalize it, you lose your original settings.

To change your country and language:

  1. Sign in to Google News.
  2. Next to the country name at the top, click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  3. Select your country.

See news from your favorite sources

See more stories from preferred sources, and block news sources you don’t like.

  1. Go to news.google.com. You might be asked to sign in.
  2. At the top right, click Settings Settingsand then Sources.
    • Under "Preferred," list publications you want to see more news from.
    • Under "Blocked," list publications you don’t want to see any news from.
  3. In the correct section, start entering a publication. Select the name from the list.

To remove a source from your preferred or blocked list, next to the publication name, click Remove Remove.

Stop seeing stories based on past searches

There are several ways to stop Google News from showing stories based on your past searches and browsing activity on Google:
