Draw lines & shapes in My Maps

You can trace a path or highlight an area on your map by drawing lines and shapes.

Draw a line

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the My Maps app My Maps.
  2. Open or create a map. Maps have the following size limits:  
    • Up to 10,000 lines, shapes, or places 
    • Up to 50,000 total points (in lines and shapes)
    •  Up to 20,000 data table cells
  3. In the bottom right, tap Add Add and then Add a new line.
  4. Drag the map until the X is where you want it, then tap Add Add.
  5. Repeat until you’ve drawn your line, then tap Done Done. To go back a step, tap Backspace Backspace.
  6. Give your line a name and choose a layer. A layer can hold up to 2,000 lines, shapes, or places.
  7. Tap Done Done.

Edit or delete a line or shape

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the My Maps app My Maps.
  2. Open or create a map.
  3. Tap a line or shape.
  4. Tap Edit Edit.
    • Change name or other info: Type in the fields.
    • Redraw a line: Tap Edit Edit.
    • Delete the line or shape: Tap Delete.
  5. When you’re finished, tap Done Done.
