About this column

The Logical Asset ID (ALID) column is intended for linking the content associated with the avail line item to the delivery info provided in the avail. This is a required column in the EMA template.

The ALID is to be used within the context of component deliveries, in combination with the Common Media Manifest, and the Media Manifest Core delivery format. ALIDs exist to provide an identifier that links individual experiences within a manifest file to discrete line items in the EMA avail.

ALID allows for identification of all assets (single or set) that comprises an avail covered by a single identifier. ALID instructs the retailers on which assets (edits, variants, etc.) are covered by the avail. It can be as specific as the retailer requires (e.g. a specific edit, or any edit available to the retailer).

Objects that can share the same ALID are:

  • Single objects (movie, TV, short, etc.)
  • Internally grouped objects (season, miniseries, etc.)
  • Arbitrarily grouped objects (referenced recursively used ID)
ALIDs can and should be shared across multiple territories that receive the same assets. There is no need to create territory specific ALIDs if the experience is the same.
(The same applies to SeriesAltID and EpisodeAltID.)

TV ALIDs do not need to be consistent across territories

Any unique string can be used. Per the specification, the recommended format is using the identifier structure defined in Common Metadata. This format consists of three parts:

  • The ALID prefix e.g. md:alid
  • The optional organization or EIDR tag e.g. org:nbcu or eidr-x
  • The identifier e.g. 1489-49A2-3956-4B2D-EG76-6 or 2130583
Example:
  • md:alid:eidr-s:1489-49A2-3956-4B2D-EG76-6
  • md:alid:org:mpm.mymovie.com:2130583
Important: Once an ALID has been set for a title, it should not be changed as that will create a new order for the title.

Additional Google requirements

  • For the time being, it is acceptable to duplicate the identifier used in the AltID column into the ALID column.
