CaptionIncluded

Applies to Movie and TV avails

EMA requirement: Required (US only)
Google requirement: Required (US only)

About this column

This column notifies the retailer if a closed caption file is included with the delivery. FCC regulations require that any US content broadcast on television must have closed captions (trailers and previews are excluded). A content owner can provide one of the following values:
  • “Yes” - a separate closed caption file will be delivered.
  • "No" - a separate closed caption file is not available.

Additional Google requirements

Starting April 4, 2016, Google Play will no longer accept new content for the US storefront without closed captioning assets. Providing a captions certificate will not exclude a title from requiring captions.

This includes:

  • Content that may not have traditionally been captioned (e.g., bonus content, concerts, sporting events, etc).
  • Content with partial English subtitles (e.g., forced subs, multiple spoken languages, etc).
For more information, visit our help center page on captions.

Best practices

If the entry is “No” for an avail line item, then the CaptionExemption must be completed and valid for the avail to be accepted and the title to be eventually distributed.

Common mistakes

Use values "Yes" or "No". Some retailers may be case-sensitive, "yes" can lead to a delivery error or rejection.
