About AssetLanguage

  • EMA Definition:  Content provider intends to provide at least assets with this language (not contractual)
  • Only one language code may be entered (in the AssetLanguage column) per avail line item
  • Google follows the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) registry for language codes
    • -  The language code is on the "Subtag" line
      • Examples:
      •   -  The language code for English localized content = en
      •   -  The language code for French localized content = fr
      •   -  The language code for Japanese localized content = ja
    • -  If you need help finding the correct language code, please reach out to our support alias:
    •    playsupport-moviestv@google.com
  • AssetLanguage should be availed in combination with LocalizationType to indicate delivery specs
  • If a Channel is used in the 'Any' Column of the avail, a specific Country Code and Language Code may be required for the avail to pass validation --- see Channel Example in Partner Portal

MOVIES

  • In the past, content delivery used the Legacy delivery pipeline
    • Multi-audio support was not available on the storefront
    • Used to communicate to the PPH each order's delivery specifications
    • AssetLanguage and LocalizationType used to distinguish between the available storefront versions
      • (Subbed, Dubbed, or Original Version)
  • Now, content is delivered through the Next Gen delivery pipeline
    • Multi-audio support is available on the storefront
    • Legacy-delivered titles that require redelivery, need to redeliver through Next Gen pipeline
    • All future deliveries will deliver through the Next Gen pipeline

Avail only allows a single AssetLanguage value, this could cause confusion and be misleading for delivery requirements, especially for titles that provide multiple audio options on the storefront. A more accurate method of availing titles that plan to offer multiple audio tracks, is to leave the AssetLanguage column 'blank' and the LocalizationType column 'blank'. This indicates to the PPH to deliver any audio languages that are available.

Example
|   NEXT GEN   |   Movie title was filmed in English
  • Partner availed:  Territory = DE   |   AssetLanguage = 'blank'   |   LocalizationType = 'blank'
  • PPH will deliver Original audio language  +  Multiple Dubbed audio languages, and Multiple Subtitle languages           (depending on what they have available)
  •
Example
|   LEGACY   |   Movie title was filmed in English
  • Partner availed:  Territory = DE   |   AssetLanguage = de   |   LocalizationType = dub
  • PPH will deliver German Dubbed audio
  •
  • Partner availed:  Territory = DE   |   AssetLanguage = de   |   LocalizationType = sub
  • PPH will deliver English audio and German Subtitles
  •
  • Partner availed:  Territory = DE   |   AssetLanguage = en   |   LocalizationType = 'blank'
  • PPH will deliver English audio and English Subtitles

TV SHOWS

  • TV Shows, Seasons, and Episodes, have migrated to the Next Gen delivery pipeline
    • Limitation:  Multi-audio support is not available
    • A TV Show may be available on a country's storefront as multiple versions, but each version will offer a single-audio track option
      •  -  US/CA/GB/AU may offer 1 version
      •  -  FR may offer up to 2 versions
      •  -  JP may offer up to 2 versions
      •  -  AT/CH/DE may offer up to 3 versions
    • Google modifies all TV avails when ingested
    • The partner-provided ALID, SeriesContentID, SeasonContentID, and EpisodeContentID, will be appended with additional characters to indicate the language version of the TV Show
    • The appended characters will auto-generate based on the
      • AssetLanguage  +  LocalizationType values provided in the avail

Keep in mind, leaving AssetLanguage 'blank' is not accepted for TV avails, but leaving LocalizationType 'blank' indicates 'Original Language Version'.

Example
|   NEXT GEN & LEGACY  |   TV Show was filmed in English
  • Partner availed:  Territory = DE   |   AssetLanguage = de   |   LocalizationType = dub   |   ALID = 123_alidTV
  • Before avail import:  ALID = 123_alidTV
  • After avail import:  ALID = 123_alidTV_de_DUBBED
  • PPH will deliver German Dubbed audio

  • Partner availed:  Territory = DE   |   AssetLanguage = de   |   LocalizationType = sub   |   ALID = 123_alidTV
  • Before avail import:  ALID = 123_alidTV
  • After avail import:  ALID = 123_alidTV_de_SUBTITLED
  • PPH will deliver English audio and German Subtitles

  • Partner availed:  Territory = DE   |   AssetLanguage = en   |   LocalizationType = 'blank'   |   ALID = 123_alidTV
  • Before avail import:  ALID = 123_alidTV
  • After avail import:  ALID = 123_alidTV_en_LOCALIZATION_TYPE_UNSPECIFIED
  • PPH will deliver English audio and English Subtitles

Common mistakes

>  Using the country code instead of the language code

  • Examples:
  •   "DK" (Denmark) instead of "da" (Danish)
  •   "MX" (Mexico) instead of "es-419" (Latin American Spanish)
  •   "JP" (Japan) instead of "ja" (Japanese)

>  Not including an AssetLanguage for a TV avail

  • Example:
  •   TV Show filmed in English
  •   Partner avail:  Territory = DE  |  AssetLanguage = 'blank'  |  LocalizationType = dub  |  ALID = 123_alidTV
    •    Before avail import:  ALID = 123_alidTV
    •    After avail import:  ALID = 123_alidTV_ASSET_LANGUAGE_UNSPECIFIED_DUBBED
