Messages MMS/RCS over WiFi is broken in app, which breaks Messages for Web. (been like this for about a week now)
I have been through hours of tech troubleshooting with Sprint. Reset network, cleared memory, reset APNs and on and on. Samsung's default Messages app works with Wifi enabled for sending group/MMS/RCS. Google's current update will not allow sending Group/MMS/RCS with Wifi turned on. I have sent feedback through the app support portal.
Please, Google fix this ASAP before I delete this and other apps.

MMS and group chats work fine over wifi in the Samsung Messages app on my GS8 on Sprint network. The Google Messsages app was working fine up until the last week. I have spoken with several tech reps and spent hours performing troubleshooting and configurations. Sprint and I gave up when it was confirmed that everything works on the app included with the phone.
We also use Messages for Web and this all will only work with wifi OFF. This app is now chewing up mobile data.

It's not about settings.  It's broken.  I had to delete the app.  Sadly back to the stock Samsung messaging app.

Thank you Shannon. We are not luddites. We have done the work. Group messaging RCS and MMS work fine with WiFi on when we DO NOT use the Google Messages app. Stop copying and pasting steps to try when we already told you we performed those steps. Google Messages was working fine with WiFi on my GS8, on my carrier until the update last week.  You broke something,  figure it out. I've sent feedback through the app. I will now go back to the Samsung app.

Just got off with Sprint Tech Support and confirmed all of the above.  MMS over wifi works perfect with stock Android Messages app.  But the Google Messages app will not download or send out MMS messages when connected to wifi.  Sprint directed me to Google.  The app worked fine up until a few days ago (for me anyways).  That's a shame, I preferred the Google app over the others but sounds like it's not an option anymore.

Same here with my ancient S7 circa December 2016 on Sprint.  To confirm the above, the Samsung Messaging app works fine with MMS.  At first I thought this was due to the T-Mobile merger and tower sharing but it is a Google issue as noted.

Again, it sucks as I 'standardized' on Google apps because I like the functionality.  Google Messages was nicely integrated and easy to use and I receive A LOT of MMS message (team messages for hockey, etc.) so I cannot live with the issue of turning wifi on and off.  I'm also on wifi calling a lot at home even with unlimited data. I have FiOS with excellent speed and bandwidth, so why wouldn't I use it?

Samsung Messaging is functional but has a few more steps at times with attachments, etc.  Hopefully Google will fix as I'm sure this effects an enormous amount of users.  If they don't fix fairly quickly, it shows 'Apple-levels' of arrogance.

Same issue here.  I have also noticed (but have not been able to prove) that if ONE of the group chat participants is using an Iphone, that seems to be a common denominator with this problem.

The lack of response from the development team is unforgivable. There appears to be updates to the Messages app in the Play online version, how ever this version which shows "Updated May 15, 2020" does not install from the phone app (which still shows version 5.9.099 updated April 29, 2020).

Same issue with a Note8 on sprint, same issue with my S7 on sprint in the past.  This has been a problem for a long time with no resolve.  Very annoying.  I know so many people on the brink of abandoning googles message app because of this.
