Group texts being split into mulitple message threads

since the latest Android update (I'm on a Galaxy S20) some group chats are divided into multiple separate messages. Some chats with all iphones (other than me) have remained a single thread, while others haven't. I do believe every group chat that's a mix of androids (additional to my android) and iphone users gets split up. Here's what a three person group chat divided up looks like:

The threads for Scott and Cameron have square photos instead of round, and are separate from my normal conversation threads with them. It also added a thread for my responses to the group that's just me (Lucas).

I'm considering reverting my Android version, or just the messages app version. Any help would be much appreciated!

I would suggest for you to send feedback to the developers of the application so that hopefully the above issue can be fixed.

Please follow the instructions below.

Open the messages application then go to the top right hand corner where your profile icon is tap on that then go to Help and feedback then click on send feedback.

Sooooooo did this do anything? Did Google fix this? With RCS on the iPhone, this happens more and more often for me. Threads that I have long deleted will resurface and receive messages that were intended for other threads.

Has anyone figured this out? I also have an s20 my group text that always had one thread now has a different thread when anyone responds. When you look at the thread it always says the person responding created a new group and it include my email address as a recipient

I couldnt work this out on the s20fe I switched over to stock messages , blue w 3 dots

I'm having the exact same problem. Ive been looking for a solution, but it seems there is none. My guess is that it has to do with the recent transition of iPhone to RCS. I don't have the splitting issue with Android users or with iPhone users who have enabled RCS. But if there's an iPhone user who hasn't updated to RCs, the messages split.

Think I might have figured it out if you go into Google messages click on the top right corner select message settings then scroll down to advanced. Under advanced the second spot from the bottom it says phone number. Add your phone number to this spot and it should work. Atleast worked for me and my wife. Hope this helps.

To save the phone number I had to toggle 'Use Simple Characters'. When that's on it'll let you save the number. Once saved, you can toggle that off or on, whatever you want.

I had the same problem. This created serious confusions among the group members. Even three member group threads were broken up and sometimes generated multiple threads and repeated messages. I suspect AI has something to do with this. It seemed to guess some messages are response to only one of the group member. So create a new thread for just two members.

I deleted the Google Messages from my Galaxy phone. I really like the privacy and encription of the system but it simply did not provide the simple group messaging function.
