Multiple lines and only 4 characters per line

Question

I'm extremely frustrated with Google messages you just seem to make this app worse and worse.  First I was able to highlight certain texts in a text message where I can send it to somebody else and then you remove that feature I can only select the whole text now I have to paste it in a notepad before I can copy and paste a portion of that text it's not rocket science tons of people would like to be able to copy a portion of their texts and not have to resort to putting it into another note app to be able to do this. 
If that was not frustrating enough I was on Google beta and two days ago I noticed that there's multiple lines when I go to send a text but each line only allows four characters WTF!!!! WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF HAVING TWO LINES WITH ONLY FOUR CHARACTERS PER LINE???? I uninstalled the beta and reverted back to regular Google messages last night and it was fine I was back to one line and I can see everything that I'm typing and then today bam the same thing two lines four characters per line if this is not fixed ASAP I will be ditching Google messages. The way Google is getting any more I'm almost ready to freaking ditch Android and go to Apple you guys screw everything up that works and then stop supporting everything! Please fix this ASAP many people are complaining online.
