I cannot set a notification sound for just google messages.

Going into the settings the incoming messages is missing and there is no option to change it. Only way to do it is from settings in phone but it chnages all notifications. I'm also using andriod 14

Yes, this is what I was looking for. Ok, what you want is the option called - "Manage Notification categories for each app" which you can find in the phone settings, Notifications, Advanced Settings, and then to the bottom. Turn that on, and when you go back to the notifications settings for the messages app, you can then scroll down to "Notification categories" and then down to "incoming messages" under "Default Settings" and tap that, and that will take you to another screen where you can set the sound for just those.

Go to notification categories incoming messages after you had gone into general settings and all app notifications separately turn on

Okay, it's October 2024. Verizon forced us off of message plus app. For Androids and sent us to the worst messaging app ever. I am no longer hearing my texts come in because the tone is so low even at the highest volume. I've tried numerous times spend about 90 minutes so far trying all different things turning phone off turning it on I refuse to factory reset it because that is not the issue. So I'm telling people if you don't hear from me and need an answer call me...

Exact same problem with S20FE. A couple weeks ago I "accidentally" figured out how to get the text sound. Could not even tell you how I did it. Then a couple days ago the Messages app font went super large for no reason. Never could get it back to normal size. So thought I'd uninstall, then reinstall. BIG MISTAKE. Now I can't get the text notification sound back. GRRRRRRRR!

Yes, same here. Google Messages has set all conversations to a default silent. There is no option to change the default to alert. I can only change each contact individually, which is ridiculous. And any messages from numbers not in my contacts would still default to silent.

Somehow, it is tied to whether you have SMS turned on with encryption. But today that doesn't seem to make a difference. I cannot change an individual in messaging. Google messages absolutely sucks. I used to be able to get it to read me my messages and have my internal sounds attached to people so that while my hands were busy I would be able to know who was texting me and what they wanted. Not anymore. What a piece of....

This didn't fix it for me. It just turns sound on or off and something else. But it doesn't change google messages notification sound.
