Completely unable to enable RCS chat features on a Verizon Pixel 2 XL 0 Recommended Answers 13 Replies 21 Upvotes

My mother's Pixel 2 XL will not enable chat services, no matter what I do. It always just says, "Chat features unavailable for this device. Your carrier does not currently support this feature."
I have cleared cache and data for Messages and Carrier Services and restarted the phone to no avail. She is using Messages Beta, but so am I, and I had no problem enabling RCS on my phone.

Hello and welcome,

I don't think Verizon directly support RCS on P2 XL.  You may need to wait for Google's rollout of RCS to hit your mother's device.

I have contacted Verizon directly and they confirmed they support RCS. They said to contact Google to confirm if RCS would be supported on the Pixel 2 XL, that Google would roll it out in stages starting October 2019 (new to old platforms). Can you confirm if Google plans to include the Pixel 2 platform in the RCS rollout? If so, when?

I don't know the exact rollout schedule, but I am pretty sure the P2 XL will get RCS.

I'm having the same issue... My girlfriend and I have identical phones and she got a notification about enabling the chat features, but mine still says unavailable.

My wife's Pixel XL finally allowed turning on chat features. I enabled them, the setup was completed and I turned on all 3 chat features switches. It said Status: Connected. Then I did the same on my Pixel 3XL. Everything was ready to go. Tried a few test texts and noticed it was still doing plain SMS. I looked back at my wife's phone and it said "chat features unavailable for this device"!! What the hell Google? You gave it and took it away 5 minutes later?? Stuff like this should just work, without the need to light incense, do some sacred chants and then HOPE with fingers crossed that the Google spirits will smile upon us.

So this is weird. I noticed some troubleshooting steps mention clearing storage for Carrier Services app and I noticed my wife's phone didn't have it. I went to the play store entry for Carrier Services and the button that usually says "Install" or "Update" instead said "Enable" so I clicked it. Then it changed to say "Update" which I did. Went to the Messages app settings and boom - chat features enabled. I don't know how or why that app wasn't enabled because I used to use a Pixel XL and I think it's supposed to be there.

I got a pop up to enable RCS but when I go to settings it says Verizon doesn't support chat features on my device. I've cleared the messages app cache and looked on the carrier services app like someone else suggested. Still nothing. I'm so confused.

I have tried clearing the cache and the storage in Android Messages as well as checking the Carrier Services and I still can get the download to take place. I called Verizon a couple weeks ago and they had no clue about it whatsoever. This really frustrating.

Same thing happened to me. It says I could enable the feature and then nothing happened and now says its unsupported.

I actually got mine to work! I uninstalled messages (or the updates anyway since I have a pixel) and then reinstalled. I went back into settings and the features worked!

I was initially not able to enable RCS, but I followed the information from this article and it worked right away. - (Using a Pixel 2 - Verizon)
