You can chat directly with businesses on Google Search through Messages.
Before you start
Sign into your Google Account in Messages. Learn how Messages works with your Google Account.
Your information, including your email and phone number, aren't shared when you message a business from Google Search. The conversation is linked to your Google Account and is available across your linked devices.
Businesses can see your name and profile picture but don't receive information until you send a message.
You can export and download conversations for your records to use with other Google products. Learn how to download your data.
When you send messages to a business, we share your device's preferred language so that, when possible, they can respond in the same language.
You can change your language preferences in your device settings. The changes may take up to 24 hours.
Tip: Think carefully before you share sensitive information with a business, like your:
- Credit card numbers
- Banking information
- National insurance, passport or another government identification number
- Passwords and other sign-in information
- Health records
- Any personal information that you want to keep private
Start a conversation
Important: If a business sets up Messages, the Search results will show a Chat button .
- On your Android device, in Google Search, search for a business.
- Tap the Chat button

- Enter your message, then tap Send
.
Find a conversation
Chats with businesses appear with your conversations in Messages by Google. You can also search for the conversation by business name in Messages, the same way that you search for other contacts.
If the business responds to you after you have left the conversation, you'll get a notification.
Block and report a conversation
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Messages app
.
- Touch and hold the conversation that you want to report.
- Tap Block

Delete a conversation
Important: If you delete a conversation from a device, it's permanently removed from linked devices but a business may continue to respond to you.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Messages app
.
- Touch and hold the conversation that you want to delete.
- Tap Delete
.
- To confirm, tap Delete.

You can open a conversation and delete it from within the conversation.

Turn message read receipts on or off
Read receipts automatically turn on for Business Messages. If you turn off read receipts, businesses no longer get the 'Read' status when you open their messages.
To turn read receipts on or off for messages from Google Search:

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Messages app

Open your conversation with the business.

At the top, tap Menu
Read receipts.

Turn 'Send read receipts' on or off.
Learn more about Business Messages
To exchange messages directly with businesses, click the Chat button on Search, Maps and third-party websites. Business Messages collects certain information from you to exchange messages. Some of this functionality uses Google Play services.
When you message a business through Business Messages:
- Your name and profile photo are shared with that business.
- Messages that you compose and photos that you choose to send are sent to that business, saved with cloud storage and synced across your devices.
- Google collects your email address for account management but we don't share your email address with the businesses that you have messaged.
- We share the language of your device with the business so that they can respond in your preferred language.
- To improve our services and address issues, Business Messages collects your usage information, crash logs and diagnostics.
Tip: Messages that you send with your Google Account are stored and encrypted with Google Cloud.
