Use Messages to chat with businesses

You can chat directly with businesses from Google Search through links on the Search result page.

Before you start

When you send a message to a business, we share the language of your device with them so they can respond in your preferred language when possible. We don't share your language preference with them until you send a message. You can change your language preferences in your device settings. Language changes may take up to 24 hours to take effect.

Your conversations are saved to your Google Account. Your conversations are available on any device linked to your account. You can export and download conversations for your records or to use with other Google products. Learn how to download your data.

The businesses you chat with may have access to the name and profile picture on your Google Account.

Tip: Think carefully before you share sensitive information with a business, like:

  • Credit card numbers
  • Banking information
  • Social Security, passport, or another government identification number
