Google Messages lets you send and receive photos, videos, audio files or GIFs as multimedia over RCS.
Important:
- Some steps only work on Android 6.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.
- To send or receive files, grant permission to Google Messages. Control your app permissions.
Send pictures, videos, files or GIFs
- Open Google Messages

- Open or start a conversation.
- Tap Gallery
.
- Select a file or take a picture.
- (Optional) Tap the HD or HD+ button to change the media quality.
- HD optimised for chat: Sends quality media faster, using less data.
- HD+ original quality: Sends at full media resolution.
- Tap Send

Tips:
- Photos or recordings that you take in Google Messages aren't saved on your device.
- The option that you select is saved and will be used when you send images in the future. You can change it every time that you attach an image to a new message. The options are available in the image preview.
Use camera effects
Important: The feature is only available for Pixel 6 and later, and Samsung Galaxy S20+ devices.
To access the feature:
- Open Google Messages

- Open or start a conversation.
- Tap Image capture
Camera effects

- Tap an effect that you want to apply to your image or video.
- Tap Send
.
Tips:
- The feature works for images and videos in RCS and MMS messages.
- Images with camera effects show up on Messages Web and RCS for iPhone devices.
- Available effects range from a simple touch-up to look your best in different lighting conditions to seasonal effects.
Send voice messages
- Open Google Messages

- Open or start a conversation.
- Press and hold Mic
.
- Record your message.
- Tap send
.
To cancel a voice message, swipe left on the chat or close the message.
Send your location
- Open Google Messages

- Open or start a conversation.
- Tap Attach
