Slide your finger to type

You can slide your finger from letter to letter to spell out words.

Important: You're using a custom Android version. If these steps don't work for you, check with your device manufacturer.Important: Some of these steps work only on Android 8.0 and up or on Pixel watches with the Pixel watch Android companion app version 4.1 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

Important: Not all languages work with this feature.

Write words

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, install Gboard.
  2. Open any app that you can type with, like Gmail or Keep.
  3. Tap where you can enter text.
  4. Slide your finger across the letters to spell the word you want. Then lift your finger.

Delete unwanted text

  1. On your Android device, open the document or message with the word you want to replace.
  2. Tap where you want to put your cursor. From there, to:
    • Replace a word: Pick a suggestion.
    • Remove a word: Double tap a word. Then tap Delete.

Change your keyboard settings

  1. On your Android device, open the Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap System and then Languages & input.
  3. Tap Virtual keyboard and then Gboard.
  4. Pick an option, like Glide typing or Voice input.
