We've recently updated the Shopping policies and these resources. See our announcement about these changes.

Our policy

Google wants users to trust that information about them will be respected and handled with appropriate care. As such, our advertising partners should not misuse this information, nor collect it for unclear purposes or without appropriate security measures.

Examples of what's not allowed

 

Unsafe collection or use of personal information
Using security measures inappropriate for the type of information being collected
  • Examples: Collecting personal information: first and last name, mailing address, phone number, numbers for credit or debit cards, bank and investment accounts, wire transfers, national identity, login email and password, tax ID, pension, healthcare, driver’s license or social security numbers over an unsecured page which is not SSL protected and without a valid certificate

 

Misuse of personal information
Using personal information in ways users have not consented to
  • Examples: Re-selling users' contact information or using images of users in ads without their consent

What you can do

Here's more detail about each violation and what you can do if your item is disapproved or your Merchant Center account is warned or suspended:

Unsafe collection or use of personal information
  1. Read the policy above to learn what we don't allow.
  2. Update your website so that you process personal information from customers through a secure SSL server to keep it safe.
    • Use a secure server. When processing personal information from customers, make sure that you use a secure processing server (SSL-protected, with a valid SSL certificate). With SSL, your webpage URL will appear with https:// instead of http://.
  3. Request a review of your account.

    • If your account is suspended, you can request an account review.

Most accounts are reviewed within 3 business days, but some can take longer if they need a more complex review.

Misuse of personal information
  1. Read the policy above to learn what we don't allow.
  2. Update your website to meet all requirements and be compliant with the policy above.
    • Certain business models are not compatible with Google Shopping policies and, therefore, are not eligible for Merchant Center accounts. If you believe that your site meets all requirements, you may request a review of your account.
  3. Request a review of your account.

    • If your account is suspended, you can request an account review.

To ensure a safe and positive experience for users, Google requires that advertisers comply with all applicable laws and regulations in addition to Shopping ads policies. It is important that you familiarize yourself with and keep up to date on these requirements for the place where your business operates, as well as any other places Shopping ads are shown. When we find content that violates these requirements, we may block it from appearing, and in cases of repeated or egregious violations, we may ban you from promoting Shopping ads content with us.
