Using the feed debugger

The feed debugger is a tool that you can use to troubleshoot how to fix any formatting issues in your data feed. The tool will only help you verify how to fix an error - it will not save any of the edits that you apply in the tool in your actual data feed.

You can access the feed debugger either for your entire data feed or for individual items once you have already uploaded a data feed that meets the specifications listed below.

Availability for an entire data feed

The feed debugger is available for your entire data feed if the feed is:

  • Submitted in a delimited text or XML format; and
  • Set to the Shopping destination; and
  • Smaller than 200 KB.

If your feed does not meet these specifications, the button to Load into debugger will be disabled.

Here's how to load your entire feed into the debugger:

  1. From your Merchant Center account, go to the Feeds section under the Products page.
  2. Click the name of the feed you want to load into the debugger.
  3. From the Status tab, click the Load into debugger button.

Availability for individual items

The “Load item into Debugger” option allows you to load just that item into the tool as it appears in your data feed. This option appears only if your feed meets these specifications:

  • Submitted in a delimited text format; and
  • Set to the Shopping destination; and
  • Smaller than 100 MB.

Here's how to use the debugger on individual items:

  1. From your Merchant Center account, go to the Feeds section under the Products page.
  2. Click the name of the feed you want to load into the debugger.
  3. From the Status tab, expand on any of the item errors or item warnings to view the sample items for each error or warning.
  4. Choose the item you want to load, and click the Load item into Debugger link.

Using the tool

Once you have loaded either your feed or an individual item into the feed debugger, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot your data:

  1. View the list of all of the errors and warnings for the items in the text field of the tool at the bottom of the screen, sorted by line numbers. If applicable, each individual row of the items in the text field will also be marked with the errors and warnings from that line. You can hover over the error and warning icons on each line to see what issues are specific to that row.
  2. Once you have identified the causes of an error or a warning, edit your attributes and their values directly in the text field.
  3. Click "Verify" to run the debugger again. If the issues have been fixed, the error will be cleared.
  4. Repeat this process until you have verified that you have a solution for resolving all of the errors and warnings for the items in the text field.
  5. After you have successfully verified how to fix the errors and warnings for your items, you will need to make that change in your data feed and upload it again for processing.

Note: While using the debugger, please verify the upload settings for your data feed by selecting the appropriate values in the available dropdown menus, including the target country and destinations. File format and delimiter will auto-detect or you can manually select the appropriate value. Please note that different destinations may have different data requirements, so it is important that you troubleshoot for the appropriate destination.
