Submit apparel products

Apparel and other items that fall within the broad categorization of Apparel & Accessories (Shoes, Handbags, Jewelry, Accessories, etc.) come in a variety of colors, materials, sizes, and so on. Google is investing in making the shopping experience for apparel products - browsing for products, finding related and complementary items - rich and intuitive for shoppers. To accurately display these items to shoppers, Google requires that merchants submit specific attributes for apparel products. This article will help you determine which attributes to submit for your apparel goods and give you example submissions; however, please be sure to review the Feed Specification carefully as well.

To help you determine which attributes to submit for your products, we’ve divided apparel goods into two types - simple and variant. Variant attributes are used to describe how one product varies from another in the same group. For example, if you have a T-shirt in different colors, materials, patterns, or sizes, you can use these attributes to describe the variations within this group of T-shirts. If your products do not contain variants and do not need to be grouped together with other items, they are considered simple apparel products.

Simple Apparel Products

Simple apparel products are items that do not need to be grouped together based on variants. For example, a necklace that is only available in one size, color, material, and pattern, is defined as a simple apparel product.

For simple apparel items for feeds targeting the US, UK, DE, FR, JP, you are required to submit the apparel attributes ‘color’, ‘age group’, and ‘gender’. The ‘size’ attribute is also required for items that fall under the category or subcategories of ‘Apparel & Accessories > Clothing' and 'Apparel & Accessories > Shoes’.

For all other countries, ‘size’, ‘color’, ‘age group’, and ‘gender’ are recommended for any item in the ‘Apparel & Accessories’ product category.

Variant Apparel Products

You will submit both apparel and variant attributes for variant apparel products. Variant attributes are used to describe how one product varies from another in the same group. For example, if you have a T-shirt in different colors, materials, patterns, or sizes, you can use these attributes to describe the variations within this group of T-shirts.

In order to group your variant items together, use the ‘item group id’ attribute with a common value across the grouping of variant items. Each variant group must have a unique value for ‘item group id’.

If your variant group differs by more than one attribute, you must submit one item per variant combination. For example, if a T-shirt is offered in 4 different colors and each color is available in 5 different sizes, you must submit a total of 20 items.

For variant apparel items, it is required that you provide a unique image of the specific variant if the item differs by ‘color’, ‘pattern’ or ‘material’. For variants that differ only by ‘size’, you may submit identical images.

Below you will find an explanation of how to format and submit your variant apparel products for different target countries.
