Ending Hangouts
2
Hi

when I start a meeting and I send the link to students, even when I end the meeting on hangout, students still can join the meeting, how can I end the meeting and make sure that the link or invitation was sent to them won't work anymore?

we are using G suit by the way and students emails also in our google domain.

Hello Basel,

It is possible to set a start date and end for the meet.

Once a meet is ended students will need to request access from the owner to reuse the meet link.

Best,
Ms. Drasby

Hi Lori Woods,

I suggest you set up the events with Calendar. Along the event creation you schedule the start and end times of the event. Here's a helpful video from G Suite resources: https://youtu.be/iIPbCbqHKfc

There is no other way to schedule an end time except doing it as a calendar invite?

Hi Chris Jeffries,

It is recommended that you start your own thread and  ask your question for your specific experience.  The answer is relevant to the original question only. Thank you for understanding!

Thanks for the help and sorry about the posting... But the fix of going through Google Calendar did not work. I ended the meeting time and the link was still available for rejoin and to join as a first time entrant.

Hi Chris and all on this thread,

Thank you for adding this information!

It is correct to say that the present setting of an *end time to the Meeting* won't result in the students automatically being removed from the meeting. They will still be able to stay on the same meeting.

We have notified our team for their consideration. We hope to have an update for you soon.

I'm having the same problem.  I started a Meet video conference today with my 6th graders.  I thought it would end when I logged off, but a student just emailed me to say many of the students are still on.  Any ideas on how to stop the feed?

I am having the same problem with my students. They are staying on the video feed and not completing the work for the day.

Same as me. The meetings remain opened. And if you record the meeting, how can you stop the recording? Or how to recover the recorded content if the meeting is not closed?

Maybe the meeting remains opened because I've scheduled to repeat it twice a week from Calendar?
I think I would apreciate to have a button to able or unable the recording independently.

Google Meet, it is crazy important that this feature be created for educators during this time. Any time frame of when this could be expected?

Agreed!!  Even when scheduling it through the calendar, participants are able to join before or after the scheduled time.  We even tried deleting a past meeting from the Google Calendar, but those with the link were still able to join that meeting.  I hope there is a fix for this ASAP.

We are dealing with the same issues here.  Once the meeting id is created it appears to work indefinitely regardless of the calendar setting.  This has to be addressed for use with K-12 and please hurry!

If you look back historically this issue has been known about for seven years.
Doesn't change the fact it should be fixed.
I've been sent down many rabbit holes trying to find a solution. The solution is that Google fix the issue

The ideal situation would be to have a turn on and off button for the Meet. Just like what Google Forms has when you toggle the button to accept responses or not.   Please help with this!!

Can Google create the ability to end meetings that are created within the Calendar (instead of only meetings in meet.google.com)?

This is how I schedule my student-teacher video conferences and really would like to have Meet links disabled at the end time on the calendar.

Love the idea of the disable feature similar to Forms.  Thank you!!!

Hi Dana Farrar,

This has been a prevailing feature request. Hangouts Meet Engineering team is working on a solution and my Community Manager has let me know it is expected to be released in two or three weeks.

Hi Samantha Farr,

I would recommend you keep up with the nick named class since Google gave  teachers a  privileged control over entering and ending the meeting for their students.

If another person from your domain enters uninvited, it isn't related to how the link works but to their permissions domain based.  I would recommend that you contact the Educational Domain Administrator and ask them to change permissions on Organisational Unit for that person.

For further questions please start your own thread and ask your specific question. The original question on this thread has been answered and further comments are hot helpful for others who are reading here. In fact it could be confusing.

Stay healthy,
NinCoT
