Set a timer in Google Meet

As a Google Meet host or co-host, you can set a timer that's visible to everyone. The timer can help you:

  • Manage meeting time effectively.
  • Make sure that you cover all agenda items.

Important:

  • The hosts and co-hosts can start and control the timer only on the web.
  • All participants on any device can find the timer once it's been started.
  1. To join a meeting on your computer, open Google Meet.
  2. In the bottom-right, click Meeting tools and then Timer.
  3. Set the time in minutes and seconds.
  4. To begin the countdown, click Start.
    • While the timer is active, you can:
      • Pause: Stop the timer temporarily.
      • Resume: Resume a paused timer.
      • Extend: To add one minute, click Add and the total time on the timer will increase.
  5. Optional: To turn sound notification on or off, click Alarm .
    • This is only available when host controls are disabled.

Tips:

  • When the timer reaches zero, you get a sound notification.
  • You can manage the timer if host controls are on. If host controls are off, anyone in the meeting can manage it.
