Enhance your video & audio in Google Meet

Important: This article refers to Google Workspace Labs, a trusted tester program for users to try new AI features. Workspace Labs is currently available to trusted testers in English and may not be available in your country.

Learn what you need for studio look and studio lighting

You need:

  • For studio lighting: You must have processor that is equivalent or more performant than Intel Core i9-9880H (8C/16T), Intel Core i5-1235U (2P8E/12T), AMD Ryzen 5 5500U (6C/12T), and Apple M1 (4P4E/8T)
  • A browser that supports WebGL.
  • Hardware acceleration turned on.

Turn on hardware acceleration

To turn on hardware acceleration on Windows or Mac:

  1. At the top right of a Chrome window, click Menu and then Settings .
  2. On the left, next to "Advanced," click Down Arrow Down arrow.
  3. Click System .
  4. If available, turn on Use hardware acceleration.
  5. Restart Chrome.

Check WebGL support

You can check if your browser supports WebGL at webglreport.com and verify that “Major Performance Caveat” is marked as “No”. If the device is unstable or causes crashes, your browser might turn off WebGL. You can’t enforce WebGL on unstable WebGL devices. In some cases, it may help to update graphic card drivers or restart your browser. Learn more about WebGL support.

Learn what you need for cloud-based effects processing (studio look only)

To help devices run real-time video, Meet can enhance video in the Cloud, which helps:

  • Save battery
  • Save processor power
  • Optimize video meeting quality

Adjustments between device and cloud-based effects processors are done automatically by Meet. It prioritizes cloud-based processing for devices with 4-core CPU or lower (fewer than 8 logical cores).

Important: This feature is currently available for Windows, ChromeOS, and Linux machines that comply with device-based processing requirements. Learn more about device-based processing requirements.

Visual effects that use cloud accelerator are available to eligible regions:

  • Central Asia
  • Europe
  • Northern Africa
  • North America
  • Southeastern Asia

Support for additional regions is being added.

Turn on studio look

To help improve your Google Meet video quality, studio look uses artificial intelligence to fix issues caused by low light or low quality webcams. This process automatically happens in the cloud to enhance video quality without any impact to device performance.

  1. On your computer, open meet.google.com.
  2. Select a video meeting.
  3. In the green room before you join or during the meeting, navigate to the Effects panel.
    • In the green room, click Apply visual effects on the bottom right of your self view. During a meeting, hover over your self view and click Apply visual effects in the center.
    • Alternatively click More options More and then Apply visual effects.
  4. Under “Appearance,” turn on "Studio look."

Turn on studio lighting

Important: In order to view and use this feature, you must have a processor that is equivalent or more performant than Intel Core i9-9880H (8C/16T), Intel Core i5-1235U (2P8E/12T), AMD Ryzen 5 5500U (6C/12T), and Apple M1 (4P4E/8T).

Studio lighting can be used to simulate studio-quality lighting. You’ll be able to adjust the lighting position, brightness, and color to look your best.

  1. On your computer, open meet.google.com.
  2. Select a video meeting.
  3. In the green room before you join or during the meeting, navigate to the Effects panel .
  4. Click More options More and then Settings .
    • In the green room, Click on the bottom right of your self view. During a meeting, hover over your self view and click in the center.
    • Alternatively click More options More and then Apply Visual Effects.
  5. Under “Appearance,” turn on "Studio lighting."
    • To have Google Meet automatically brighten your self view, select Auto.
    • To customize your lighting sources, select Custom .
      • The light intensity can be adjusted using the slider from the panel.
      • The light color can be changed from the panel by selecting the different colored circles.
      • The light position can be changed by dragging the Light 1 and Light 2 circles in your self view.

Turn on studio sound

Studio sound will automatically improve poor audio quality from typical bluetooth headsets and dial-in participants by using AI to recreate higher audio frequencies. Currently, this feature is available for meetings on the computer and dialing-in into a meeting by phone.

In order to use studio sound, you must meet all device requirements for Noise cancellation. Studio sound is automatically applied when noise cancellation is enabled.

Before a meeting

  1. Go to meet.google.com and then select a meeting.
  2. Before you join, in the top right-hand corner, click More options More and then Settings .
  3. Click Audio .
  4. Turn on Noise cancellation.
  5. Click Join now.

In a meeting

  1. At the bottom, click More options More and then Settings .
  2. Click Audio .
  3. Turn on Noise cancellation.

Give feedback on these features

  1. During the meeting, click More options More and then Report a problem and then Report an issue Report an issue.
  2. Submit your feedback.
  3. Choose either “Report an issue” or “Suggest an idea.”
  4. Describe your issue or suggestion.
  5. Select Capture screenshot to help identify the issue.
  6. Click Send.

Exit Workspace Labs

To turn off any of the features on Google Workspace Labs, you must exit Workspace Labs. If you exit, you’ll permanently lose access to all Workspace Labs features, and you won’t be able to rejoin Workspace Labs. Learn more about how to exit Workspace Labs.
