Use co-activities in Google Meet

You can do fun co-activities with other users in Google Meet such as:

  • Play games
  • Listen to music
  • Watch videos together

To use co-activities, you must:

  • Be on an Android device
  • Use Google Meet and a partner's app with your personal Google Account
    • Important: Meet's co-activity partner apps include:
      • YouTube
      • Heads Up
      • Kahoot!
      • UNO!

You can’t use co-activities in Google Meet if:

  • You use a paid Workspace account
    • Exceptions: If you're a Workspace Individual or Google One Premium subscriber
  • You're under the age of 18
  • You use a Family Link account

Start a co-activity as host

  1. In a meeting on your Android device, tap the screen to show the call controls.
  2. From the options, tap More actions  and then Activities .
  3. From the “Activities” menu, tap the co-activity partner’s app.
    • For Google Meet "":
      • To access the co-activity feature, you must start or schedule a meeting within the app. If you directly call a group or contact in the upgraded Meet app, this feature isn’t available.
    • For Meet (original) app :
      • This feature is available for any meeting you join or create in the Meet (original) app .
  4. Optional: If you don’t have the co-activity partner’s app installed on your Android device, tap that app’s icon and then Install. This directs you to the Play Store to download the partner’s app.
    • Once the app downloads, go back to Meet app "" or Meet (original) app .
  5. Once back inside the “Activities” menu in the Meet app, tap the co-activity partner’s app and then Open.
  6. Follow the instructions in the partner’s app to begin the co-activity.

End your co-activity session

  1. Open the Meet app you started your co-activity session in (Meet "" or Meet (original) ).
  2. Go to the banner at the top of your screen.
  3. Tap Leave live sharing and then Leave.

You can also close the YouTube app on your phone to end the co-activity session.

Tips:

  • Meeting guests must end the co-activity session for themselves.
  • You might miss notifications or in-meeting messages while inside the partner’s app. We recommend you check the Meet app "" or Meet (original) app  periodically (whichever app you used to start the co-activity) for any missed notifications.
  • To end the co-activity session for yourself, close the partner’s app on your device. Meeting guests must end the co-activity session for themselves.

Join a co-activity as a guest

  1. Join a meeting in the Meet app "" or Meet (original) app .
    • If someone starts a co-activity session after you join a meeting, you get a pop-up invitation. Tap Join. Meet redirects you to the partner’s app to start the co-activity.
    • If you join a meeting with a co-activity in progress, a blue banner appears at the top of your screen. To start the co-activity session in the partner’s app, on the banner within the Meet app "" or Meet (original) app , tap Join.
  2. Optional: If you don’t have the partner’s app installed on your Android device, the banner asks you to install their app. On the banner, tap Get app.
    1. Go to the Play Store and download the partner's app. 
    2. Return to the Meet app "" or the Meet (original) app  (whichever app you used to join the meeting) and on the blue banner at the top of your screen, tap Join

End your co-activity session 

  1. Open the Meet app you joined your co-activity session in (Meet "" or Meet (original) ). 
  2. Go to the banner at the top of your screen. 
  3. Tap Leave live sharing and then Leave.

You can also close the YouTube app on your phone to end the co-activity session.

Tip: Lower-end devices might not work well with co-activities because of an echo. You might get an in-app notification that asks you to use headphones.

Important: When you use an unsupported device or account, you get a banner notification that says you can’t join the co-activity.

Co-activities aren't supported on:

  • iOS devices
  • Laptop or computer browsers
  • Paid work or school accounts
  • Accounts registered to users under 18 years of age
  • Anyone using a Family Link account
