Use captions & translated captions in Google Meet

You can turn on captions to view subtitles as everyone speaks while in a meeting. The captions are turned on only for you.

You can use translated captions to translate to and from certain languages.

Turn captions on or off

All users can use captions in these languages

1. Open the Meet app .
2. Join a meeting.
3. At the bottom right, tap More .
4. Tap Turn on captions or Turn off captions .

Turn on translated captions

Important: Translated captions in Google Meet will be available exclusively to Duet AI for Google Workspace Enterprise add-on users at a future date. We will provide a minimum of 6 months notice to existing Google Workspace customers before this change takes place.

Translated captions are currently only available for the following Workspace editions

• Business Standard
• Business Plus
• Enterprise Starter
• Enterprise Standard
• Enterprise Plus
• Teaching & Learning Upgrade
• Education Plus

You can use translated captions to translate English to or from these languages

• French
• German
• Portuguese
• Spanish

You can use translated captions to translate English into these languages

• Dutch (Beta)

Some translated caption languages are only available in Duet AI for Workspace Enterprise, an add-on that provides customers with the best of generative AI in Google Workspace.

Use Duet AI to translate captions in these languages

• French to and from all non English languages (Beta)
• German to and from all non English languages (Beta)
• Spanish to and from all non English languages (Beta)
• Portuguese to and from all non English languages (Beta)
• Simplified Chinese, Mandarin to and from all languages (Beta)
• Thai to and from all languages (Beta)
• Italian to and from all languages (Beta)
• Traditional Chinese, Mandarin to and from all languages (Beta)
• Hindi to and from all languages (Beta)
• Russian to and from all languages (Beta)

Important: To embed captions in the clip, if you record a meeting, select Record captions.

1. To display call controls on your device when you're in a meeting, tap the screen.
2. Tap More controls Settings .
3. Turn on Live captions .
4. Select the Language of the call .
5. To go back to the previous screen, tap Back .
6. Tap Translation language .
7. Select the language to translate into.
8. To go back to the previous screen, tap Back .
9. To return to the main screen, tap Close .
