Ask participants questions in Google Meet

Important: Q&A in Google Meet is available for users with these Google Workspace editions:

  • Essentials

Ask participants questions in a Google Meet meeting

For meeting moderators:

Anyone in a meeting can ask questions. The questions show until they are deleted or hidden.

After a meeting, the moderator gets a detailed report of all the questions.

Anyone who schedules or starts a meeting will be the meeting host. If you transfer or schedule a meeting on someone else's calendar, the other person could become the meeting host. By default, there is only one meeting host per meeting but you can add up to 25 co-hosts once inside the meeting.

Turn on Q&A

Q&A turns on automatically for all users except Google Workspace for Education users.

  • Education users: Moderators can turn on Q&A during the meeting.

To turn on Q&A 

  1. At the bottom right, click Host Controls .
  2. Scroll to "Meeting Activities."
  3. Turn on Allow questions in Q&A Toggle ON.

Tip: By default, questions can be asked anonymously. To disallow this, turn off Allow anonymous questions (Q&A) Toggle Off.

Ask a question

When you ask a question, everyone in the meeting gets a notification.

When you ask a question anonymously, details are hidden from:

  • Other meeting participants
  • The moderators
  • Your Workspace Admin

The question is shared in its entirety with Google. The question is later anonymized or deleted, subject to our data retention policy.

  1. In a meeting, at the bottom right, click Activities  and then click Questions.
  2. At the bottom right, click Ask a question.
  3. Enter your question and then click Post.
    • To ask your question anonymously, check the option "Post Anonymously."

View and manage questions

In the moderator’s view, the moderator can:

  • Filter a question
  • Delete a question
  • Upvote a question
  • Hide a question
  • Resolve a question
  1. In a meeting, at the bottom right, click Activities and then click Questions.
  • To filter questions, next to "All questions," click Down arrow "" and select an option:
Tip: Participants can only filter by all questions or questions they asked.
  • To delete a question, on the question, click Delete "".
  • To upvote a question, on the question, click Upvote "".
  • To hide a question, on the question, click Hide "".
  • To mark a question answered, on the question, click Mark as answered "".

Tip: Mark a question answered so participants know it was answered.

  • To sort questions by order or most upvotes, next to "Popular," click Down arrow "" and select an option.
  • To delete a question, on the question, click Delete.

Tips: 

  • Participants can only delete their own questions. 
  • Moderators can:
    • Delete any question. 
    • View all deleted questions.
    • View deleted anonymous questions, but they won't be tied back to the poster.
  • All asked questions are in the Questions report emailed to the moderators after the meeting.

View a questions report

After the meeting, a question report is emailed to the moderator. The email includes a list of questions that were asked, hidden, or deleted along with the names of the people who posted the questions. 

  1. Open the email with the questions report.
  2. Click the report attachment.

For meeting participants:

Meeting participants can ask questions. Unless deleted, all meeting participants get your questions. 

The meeting moderator can:

  • Hide your questions.
  • View all your deleted questions.
  • View deleted anonymous questions, but they aren’t tied back to you.

  1. In a meeting, at the bottom right, click Activities  and then click Questions.
    • To sort questions by popularity or chronologically, next to "Popular," click Down arrow "" and select an option.
    • To view everyone’s questions, click All questions.
    • To view only your questions, click My questions.
    • To upvote a question, on the question, click Upvote "".
    • To delete a question, on the question, click Delete "".

Tip: Participants can delete their own questions.
