Google Maps is only showing me mixed mode directions

When getting directions, I am only being given directions via “mixed mode” with public transportation. I do not have a car this only take public transportation. How do I turn off that feature?

Hi Bryant,

What options are selected in the route options in transit mode?

Recently had a job interview where I had to select which work locations I would be willing to work at. Tried to use Google Maps to see what public transit times to each location would be like, but it wanted me to take Lyft for the last leg on almost every route. Since I can’t Lyft everyday to and from work, this “feature” skewed the results and made it difficult to determine which locations took the least time to get to on public transit. NOT AT ALL HELPFUL. Please let people turn this mode off!!!

This mixed modes feature was cute at first but now it’s the only option I’m given and makes the otherwise amazing google maps app useless. I’ve actually started using Apple Maps which seems way better at giving advice on public transit. I prefer Google Maps, but you’re really forcing my hand here.

Man Google WHAT THE FUCK!!!! This feature is losing money for me can you please fix this problem I thought it was a trip to a bus but when I get there I find out it's not a bus trip it's an Uber plan so I didn't even get to go to a survey for $150!!! PLEASE FIX THIS FUCKING PROBLEM

Same problem. Last week I was in a new city and I was taking  local buses to my destinations. I kept getting Uber and Lyft suggestions instead of bus lines. Instead of telling me a bus line wasn't available in a certain direction it would fill in the bus gaps with Lyft which made everything confusing. You think there's a bus line only to find Lyft routes instead. I don't want it doing that. Why are the Google people screwing up a good thing? They're very inconsiderate people.

To turn off mixed mode, tap the options mode when deciding on travel routes and scroll down. On the very bottom there should be connecting mode which can turn off mixed mode.

I hate this mixed mode feature and it's getting worse. It's putting routes requiring a car as the top suggestions and requires extra work for me to find bus only routes.

 I don't have a car and I don't use ride share.

Stop the mixed mode nonsense or allow us to turn it off.

You can temporarily turn it offf by pressing "options" on the directions page and then unselecting car and ride service under "connecting modes" but you'll have to go back and do it every couple of days since it seems to reset itself back to mixed mode. SO FRUSTRATING there should be a way to permanently disable it!!!

Posting here because I am so pissed with the connecting modes in Google Maps. I live in a city centre and go everywhere by public transport. The nearest metro station is a 6 minute walk. Guess what this genius app has been telling me to do lately?

It recommends me a different station on the same metro line, and tells me to CYCLE there in 5 minutes. I do not own a bike, so I turn off the Bicycle mode.

Will it now give me the more sensible travel option, i.e. walk 6 minutes to the nearest station? Of course not. Here, DRIVE 8 minutes to YET ANOTHER metro station on that same line. I don't have a car, idiots. There is a metro station 6 minutes from my apartment. So I turn off Drive mode.

No car? No problem for Maps! Just call an Uber to drive you 8 minutes to the metro station. Right?! No!! Same thing happens when I want to go to of the train stations. It used to tell me which bus, metro or tram to take, now it tells me to use Uber. I don't care for Uber or other taxi apps, but if you turn them off, Maps simply says it cannot find a way there?!

For anyone else who wants their public transport tips back: I am going to try Moovit or maps.me instead, byyeee Google Maps...

Having the same issue...I can walk to a bus stop in a few minutes, but instead, it suggests calling an Uber/Lyft, and catching the next stop down...WTF!? And when I disable driving/ride services in settings, then it suddenly doesn't have a way for me to get there. Very disappointing.

(On iPhone app, idk how this will work for other devices) When you choose public transit, next to where u choose departing times and stuff, tap options, and at the bottom unselect Car, Ride Service, and Bikesharing. That will turn it off. Unfortunately i havent cn a way to turn it off permanently, so u have to do it every time, but it makes taking transit a lot easier.
