Can't Download Offline Maps

I'm attempting to download maps for offline use. I've done this countless times before but today I'm experiencing a bug. Whenever I go to "custom map" I can set the area I want to download, but in some places, I get a notification at the top, "Please check your network connection and try again." But in other areas, the notification goes away and I'm able to download it as normal. Unfortunately, my entire route seems to be in a "black out zone". I am connected to wifi, attempted at both work and home and nothing has changed.

Any thoughts?

I was able to fix the issue. I am on iOS and this is what worked: Go to settings in the Google Maps app, under "About, terms & privacy" select "Clear application data". Once I that and signed back in to my google maps account, I was able to download the offiline map for the same location that was giving me the issue previously.

I’m having the same problem but it won’t download any maps offline at all. I’ve updated the app, restarted the phone, allowed mobile data. It can access the maps and come up with a route, it can update previous offline maps, so it is connected. But it simply says check your connection and try again when I try to download a new map. I’m guessing it’s a bug at their end.

(I’m on an iPhone, in the UK)

clearing data worked for me but then lost saved locations (want to go, starred, etc).  then it asked to use saved locations from google account and that restored by locations and was able to download the maps that I wanted. thanks.

"Clear Application Data" works only because it deletes all previous offline maps.  There must be a maximum number of maps allowed by the application.  I have plenty of memory and I was logged in.

I am tired of spending hours to upgrade, clean the cache, re-install apps, and restore saved data just because developers do a half-baked job nowadays.

Google developers are supposed to be a cut above the rest, but this doesn't show when using Google Maps. Over and over again I tried downloading an offline map over WiFi just for the app to get stuck in "waiting to Download", or showing no "Internet Connection" when in fact all other apps on the phone connected to the Internet just fine. I deleted all saved offline maps, cleaned the cache, etc. to no avail.

I guess I'll just have to continue using Here Maps instead, which proved to be a much more reliable offline navigation app. Too bad I cannot uninstall Google Maps (and other Google apps I don't use) altogether, since it's part of the Android system on my phone.

Make sure that you don't have WiFi only selected.
