Why isn’t my Android GPS working?
If you continue to experience issues, reach out to your device manufacturer for troubleshooting tips tailored to your device model. GPS can function differently in each device, and your device maker will be able to provide you with the most relevant and up to date instructions.
You may be experiencing issues due to the GPS Week Number Rollover, which begins on April 6, 2019.
What can I do to fix it?
First, we advise a few basic checks on your Android phone to ensure that this is in fact a GPS-related issue:
- Is your Location setting turned on?
- Are you outside?
- Is GPS malfunctioning across multiple apps on your device?
If the answer to these questions is yes, your GPS may have been affected by the rollover. Below are a number of tips you can use to troubleshoot:
- Update your device by visiting Settings -> System -> System Update -> Check for Update.
- Turn your Location setting on, then back off.
- Reboot your device by holding the power button down until you see “Reboot” or “Restart”. Tap the prompt to restart your device.
- Download a GPS test or reset app and follow the instructions while you’re outside with your device. It can take up to 60 seconds or more for GPS to begin working again when using this method.
