For some odd reason, the map isn't giving me ANY alternate route when I put in my destination. It only give me one route and I know that there are alternate route to go from LA to So. San Francisco. I try to click on the map to see the alternate route and nothing happens. It doesn't highlight it at all. They're also not showing up in grey, like before. Can you pls fix this.

welcome to the google maps community forum!
i am not personally aware of anything that may have changed in recent app updates that might directly explain this.
in my own personal experience, something like this is not uncommon. the routing algorithms consider several different factors, including distance and traffic conditions, among others. you may or may not find highway 201 being offered as an alternative again some time in the near future.
i do realise it can be annoying and/or frustrating when the app appears to be behaving inconsistently or illogically - this is sometimes the result when the app is constantly trying to find the best routes with available information that may be limited, inaccurate, not updated etc.
if you would like google maps to follow a route that is not offered by default, you can add intermediate stops to help "steer" its logic. for details of how to add intermediate stops, please see this - Get directions and show routes. please scroll down and look for the section titled "Add multiple destinations".
it is a manual, less convenient process and requires a little more work, but it should give you the route you would like.

Deerfoot was ALWAYS an option.
Stoney Trail was an alternate 90% of the time. Now, it never appears as an option.
In the mornings there is heavy traffic on both routes with Deerfoot being the busiest, every morning. While Stoney Trail is a bit longer. It is never offered at all, any more. But it used to be offered about 90% of the time, in previous updates.

are you able to replicate this behaviour on the desktop (browser) version of google maps?

Google maps provided the Deerfoot route (hwy 2) as the primary and Stoney Trail (hwy 201) as the selectable alternate.
Both on the desktop version as well as IPhone version.
Wow! That has not happened for a while!
Question now.. will this work on a weekday?? Guess we will see...
