The screen turns off while navigation

Please fix these issues

1- why i cannot see the "start navigation" all the time? Instead i see route preview

2- why does the screen dim or sleep during navigation?

3- why is the pin in the middle of the screen while navigating? Instead it must be closer to the bottom of the display like the rest of the other navigation apps, so we can see our way ahead better and take advantage of the upper screen, users don't really need half of the lower screen unused since they havr already taken the road.

4- the Google maps must be advanced enough to correct itself or correct users when they miss thr road/navigation and automatically suggest the new route just like other navigation apps (Sygic).

5- please make sure that "start navigation" button is always available and make the use of upper display is less occupied.

hello soran,

welcome to the google maps community forum!

this is likely because you are not physically at the starting point, or the device is not reporting you as being at the starting point.

2- why does the screen dim or sleep during navigation?

maybe check your device's settings?

pin for me is toward bottom of screen, not middle, while in navigation mode. perhaps you could post screenshot/s to illustrate what it is you are seeing?

that is what google maps in navigation mode is already doing, at least for me and other users i have checked with. perhaps you could provide a screen recording to show what it is doing for you?

5- please make sure that "start navigation" button is always available and make the use of upper display is less occupied.

if the starting point is "your location", start navigation button should always be available. it is for me and other users i have checked with. could you please clarify what you mean by "........... make the use of upper display is less occupied"? perhaps illustrate with screenshot/s?

Not especially happy with your answer to #2...

Like all phones, my device (Moto 1 5G UW) allows me set a default screen timeout time (I have mine set for 5 min) that applies to all apps.  However, when using Maps/Navigator... and specifically just Navigator...  I do not want the screen to timeout.  It is particularly annoying to have to wake up my phone while driving/navigating, not to mention it negates the whole notion of "hands free" safety while driving.

I recall a setting in previous version of Maps/Navigator that allowed me to "turn off" screen dimming while driving and prevent the timeout.  I can find no such option in current Google Maps/Navigator settings, nor can I find any setting option on my device that allows me to make an app-by-app exception to the default screen timeout setting.

So... unless I turn off the device timeout altogether every time I want to navigate a multi-hour drive, it appears there is no longer a way to exempt Maps/Navigator from default screen timeout settings while navigating.

hello glenn,

this does not happen on any of the devices i’ve used. once navigation starts, screen stays on, even though screen timeout set to 30 seconds.

may be some other setting affecting behaviour of google maps on your phone. perhaps check battery optimisation or similar, if you have that feature available?
