Hi Todd,
There is no such functionality on Google Maps, you can only select from a handful of options, just to avoid Highways, Tolls and Ferries.

Thanks for your quick response perhaps I wasn't clear or maybe you can help me so I understand are you saying that if you want to pick a slow option not a fastest option there is no way to doing that it always wants to jump back into fault to the fastest?

Hi Todd,
I think I misunderstood your question.
If you ask for Directions on the Google Maps app you might be presented with more than one route, Google would select the fastest one and there is no way to change that. However, you can select one of the other slower route options by tapping one of those routes, but I do not know of any mechanism to make Maps to select by default one of the slowest routes.

When I choose a slower, more scenic slower route option, Google still defaults to the shortest route after a couple of turns. How can I stop that default from happening?

it seems that many people do not understand the need for this. if I pick a route that does not take me into a state where I do not have a concealed carry permit but Google maps changes the route I chose and without my knowledge misdirects me into a state where my permit is not valid I accidentally became a felon. particularly if Google maps keeps rerouting me through Washington DC when I keep choosing not to go there as my chosen route to South Carolina from Vermont. yes the fastest route is through Washington DC. but no I absolutely do not want to go anywhere near that place.
