Saved places disappearing

I am pretty sure places I've saved on my google maps have been disappearing. I have a very large amount of places saved as I use the feature regularly - probably hundreds.
I've been thinking to myself over the past week when looking at the map - "hey, didn't I have this place saved?" - but I couldn't confirm it, until I found the marker for the island Tomogashima (in Wakayama prefecture) missing, a place I'm dead sure I've saved. I am also quite certain I had saved several places on the island of Naoshima, yet they are all gone.

What might have happened? Is there limit to the amount of saved places one account can handle? I recently saved some 50 places or so - I'm wondering if I've gone over some limit.

Also is there any way to restore the disappeared stars?

OK, so I just realized these places do appear when I check google maps on my phone (i.e. in the google maps app for android) - what's up? There are loads and loads of places not appearing when I check on the desktop. I mean I do have a large amount of places saved - over 900, but again, it works fine on the cellphone so...

Is this a bug google are aware of? Is there a place where I can report it where google maps engineers actually will look at it, like there is for chromium bugs? Or is this "support forum" as good as it gets?

Could you please provide a link to the custom map and describe what is missing.
Thank you

It's not the case of a custom map gone awry, I'm just using Google Maps' bog-standard bookmark feature.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question.
There is no mechanism to restore deleted or disappearing starred items.

Sometimes Maps does not display them all at once.
Can you find all your starred items in your Google Bookmarks page?

Nothing has been deleted. As I said, they appear when I check google maps on my phone. And yes, they appear on my Google bookmarks page.
But several don't display at all on desktop, no matter how close I zoom in and switching between new Google Maps and Google maps classic doesn't help either.

The same is happening to me.  On the phone I can see the starred locations but when on my desktop, I see them, but then they all disappear when the map is clicked once.

Same problem here. Getting annoying. Hit refresh and they show up and then they disappear again once you move map.

Similar problem - when I click on Google Maps in the new version, initially all of my "stars" appear, but then they all disappear.  I see them on my phone and iPad, but not my laptop.  Why are they all disappearing?  They are viewable in the older version of Google Maps so it appears it is an issue with the new version.

I am having the same problem but only on an older device. My iPhone 5 running iOS 10.3.3 will only show the most recent 500 starred places, however my iPhone 5S and iPad Air 2 running iOS 12.1.4 show all 696 of them. It would appear it is a problem with older operating systems. I would still be grateful if Google could fix the 500 limit because I use the older phone as a sat-nav.
