Location History update frequency

Is there a way to increase the frequency of location history updates? i.e. get location every minute

Battery and performance issues aside, I'd like to see more accurate location data instead of sharp lines across the map.
Or is this totally out of our hands?

Make sure to have following options enabled at ALL times when you want to have precise location data*:
  • Location Services set to High
  • GPS
  • WiFi (regardless if you are connected to a WiFi network or not)
  • Mobile Data
Make sure the following option is OFF:
  • Battery Save Mode
  • Airplane Mode
Even when you follow all of these recommendations, you HAVE to:
  • Have the Google Maps app open at ALL times.**

*Please note that these option will increase your battery consumption
**When Google Maps app is not open or is working in background your location will only update PERIODICALLY in order to save the battery. When the app is open and running your location will be updated all the time.

It is essentially out of the user control.
I have had better results in larger metropolitan areas where the cell tower density is much higher than in smaller urban areas with fewer cell towers while driving, but still it is far from perfect
Walking, where I always have GPS reception the path in the Timeline better follows the roads.
