Search on Google Maps built into your car

Important: This article is only for Google Maps built into your car. Feature availability or functionality may depend on your car manufacturer or region and data plan.

You can search for destinations on Maps in many ways. Maps lets you choose your method depending on your preferences and situation.

Tip: This feature isn't available in all languages and countries/regions. Learn how to use Assistant on other platforms.

Search by voice

You can search on Maps with voice commands.

Search for a destination

1. On your car's home screen, open the Google Maps app .
2. To search for your destination:
   • Tap the Google Maps search bar  Search all destinations . Then use the on-screen keyboard to enter a destination.
   • Tap Speech to text  and say your destination.
3. Start or stop navigation:
   • Tap Start .
   • Tap Close .

Tip: Other routes will be shown as gray lines on the map. Tap the gray lines to change your route.

Recent places

To navigate to recent places in your car:

1. On your car's home screen, open the Google Maps app .
2. To find your Recent places, tap the search bar.
3. Tap your destination.

Search nearby places by categories

1. On your car's home screen, open the Google Maps app .
2. Tap the Google Maps search bar.
3. Tap Categories . Then select a category.
4. Tap the location you want to go to  Start .

Tip: You'll find a list of nearby places and the estimated travel time to get there.

Personal places

To find your saved places in your car:

1. Sign in to your Google Account.
   1. On your car's home screen, open the Google Maps app .
   2. At the top right, tap Account Circle   Sign in to Google.
   3. Select your sign in method, then follow the on-screen instructions.
2. Go to your existing saved places:
   1. Tap the search bar  Personal .
   2. Tap a category, then select your destination.
