Follow a Google Maps profile

You can discover and follow select Maps contributors and verified accounts.

Important: Unless your profile is set to restricted, other Google Maps users will be able to review who you're following and who follows you on your profile. If your profile is set to restricted, only people following you can review the list of who you're following and who follows you.

Follow a Maps contributor or verified account

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
2. Tap Updates   Following.
3. Scroll down to the card that shows suggested people to follow. Tap Follow.

Tip: There are many ways that you can follow a Maps contributor directly. For example, you can tap Follow from their posts on the Explore tab.

Once you follow a Maps contributor or verified account, you'll find their reviews, ratings, photos and other public contributions to Google Maps in the 'Following' tab. You can follow a maximum of 10,000 contributors or accounts.

Change your recommendations

We recommend people in the recommendation carousel based on your area preferences and your suggested contacts. Learn how to change who’s saved and suggested as a contact.

To get recommendations from a different area, update your area preferences:

1. On your Android phone, open the Google Maps app .
2. At the bottom, tap Updates .
3. Scroll down to the recommendations card, then tap More   Manage your areas.
   Tip: You can create a list of areas you're interested in or not interested in.
4. Choose an option:
   • To remove an area from this list, tap Remove .
   • To add a new area, tap Add area and move the map.
   • Tap Select area.

Important: We base our suggestions of people you may know on who you've interacted with on Google services like Gmail and Photos. Learn more about suggested contacts.

 

Change whether you get recommended to others

We also recommend people in the recommendation carousel based on interactions. To limit who can follow you and which people you get recommended to, change your profile visibility. If you set your profile to Restricted, your profile isn't recommended to others and people can't see who you're following. Learn how to change your profile visibility. 

Get updates from people you follow

1. Open the Google Maps app .
2. At the bottom right, Tap Updates.

Tip: The 'Following' tab will already be selected and you'll see updates from the people you follow.

Important: Google may remove content if we learn that it violates our content policies or if it violates applicable laws. Recommendations aren't influenced by payment from other companies. Paid content in Google Maps is labelled.

Unfollow a profile in Google Maps

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
2. Tap your profile picture or initial   Your profile.
3. Tap Following.
4. Next to the profile you'd like to unfollow, tap Following.

Unfollow a business in Google Maps

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
2. Tap Saved . 
3. At the bottom, tap Following. A complete list of the places that you follow will display.
4. In the list, tap the place that you want to unfollow, then untick the box.
