Share your real-time location with others
You can choose who can see where you are on a continuing basis and for how long using Google Location Sharing.
Note: Other Google products may also allow you to share a one-time location with others.
If they have a Google Account
- If you haven't already, add their Gmail address to your Google Contacts.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app
and sign in. Learn how to sign in.
- Tap the Menu

- Choose how long you want to share your location for.
- Tap Select People.
- If you’re asked about your contacts, give Google Maps access.
- Choose a person.
- Tap Share. The person you chose will see that you shared your location with them.
Note: The first time you share your location, you’ll be asked to turn on Location History. Learn about Location History.
If they don't have a Google Account
To send your location to someone who doesn’t have a Google Account, share your location with a link.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app
and sign in. Learn how to sign in.
- Tap the Menu

- Tap Message to send via iMessage, or More
select a different app. People with this link will see your real-time location for as long as you choose, up to 72 hours.
Share your E.T.A.
After you start navigating by car, foot or bicycle, you can share your destination, estimated arrival time and where you are on the route. The person you share this information with can see your location until you arrive.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app

- Set a driving destination. Learn how to navigate to a place.
- Once you have your directions, tap More
Share trip progress.
- Choose a person from the list.
- You’ll stop sharing your location when you reach your destination or stop navigating.
- To stop sharing before you arrive, tap More

- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app

- Tap the Menu

- Turn off the switch next to the person with whom you want to stop sharing.
See where someone is
Ask for someone’s location
If you’ve shared your location with someone, or they’ve shared with you in the past, you can ask to see where they're using Maps.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app
.
- Tap Menu

- Tap a contact who’s shared with you before.
- Tap Request.
Your contact will see a notification after you ask for their location. When they see it, they can:
- Share their location with you.
- Ignore your request.
- Block you. You won’t be able to ask for their location any more.
See someone's location
If someone shares their location with you, you can see them on the map.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app

- Tap Menu

- To see an updated location, tap on a friend’s icon

Stop seeing someone's location
If you no longer want to see someone who has shared their real-time location with you on Google Maps, you can hide their location from appearing.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app
.
- On the map, tap their icon.
- At the bottom, tap More
.
- To temporarily hide someone, tap Hide from map. You can stop hiding them at any time.
Note: You can stop someone’s location from ever appearing on your map. Learn how to block another person’s account.

Location Sharing availability
You may see a warning when you open Location Sharing. Common causes include:
- You're in a country/region where you can’t share your location.
- You're too young to share your location.
Note: Your parents can manage Location Sharing with the Family Link app. - Location Sharing isn’t available for your G Suite domain. You can ask your administrator to turn on this feature.
