Google Maps languages and domains

Google Maps in your language

Google Maps automatically displays place names in the local language of each country.

While it's not possible to change the language of the place names, you can search for some major cities and locations in a number of different languages.

  1. Open Google Maps.
  2. Search for something, for example [ München ] or [ Munich ].
  3. Both bring you to the same location labeled in the local language.

Change your country domain (e.g., .com, .es)

You can use country-specific domains in Google Maps to display a map designed specifically for people in your country. Google Maps supports many country top-level domains, like .de or .jp.

You’ll be automatically re-directed to a country domain (where available) and map view based on your location.

If your domain is wrong (or you want to default to .com), you can change it.

  1. Open Google Maps.
  2. Click the link labeled “maps.google.com” in the bottom right corner of the map.
