Get traffic or search for places along the way

Even if you don’t enter a destination on maps, you can:

  • Get traffic for your drive
  • Search for places easily
  • Quickly navigate to a common type of place, like parks or gas stations

Get traffic for your drive

  1. On your mobile device, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. At the bottom, tap Go Go
  3. Select one of the trip options that show up from your past activity.

Tip: If the selected trip doesn't show up, scroll to find the trip that you want, then pin it.

In the Go tab, you can find information like:

  • How long it takes to drive to a suggested destination. Destinations are shown based on data from Google Account settings.
  • Recommended and alternative routes.
  • Traffic delays along the way, such as crashes or construction work.

Learn how to use the Go tab.

Get driving notifications with Bluetooth

If your phone or mobile device has Bluetooth turned on and paired to your car, you can get driving notifications when you start your car. To turn on notifications:

  1. On your mobile device, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial Account Circle.
  3. Choose SettingSettings and then Navigation settings and then Driving notifications.

Find events on your route

On event days, you get updates about things like:

  • Delays
  • Closures
  • Traffic conditions
