Use the Street View app

You can view, create, and publish photo spheres with the Street View app.

Get the Street View app

Download the latest version of the Street View app.

View photo spheres

To see photo spheres, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Street View app .
  2. At the top, touch one of these tabs:
    • Collections: Popular photo spheres from all around the world.
    • Explore: The top photo spheres of your map view.
    • Profile: Photo spheres that you’ve published to Maps.
    • Private: Photo spheres that you’ve created but haven’t published.

Create photo spheres

Phone or tablets

  1. Open the Street View app .
  2. Tap Create +.
  3. In the bottom right, tap Capture .
  4. Take your photos.
  5. At the bottom, press Done Done.
  6. Your photo sphere is saved in the "Private" tab and on your phone or tablet (unless you turned this setting off).

Spherical camera

  1. Turn on your spherical camera.
  2. On your phone or tablet, open the Settings app.
  3. Connect to your spherical camera’s wifi network (which will end in ".OSC").
    • Ricoh Theta S: The default password is the set of 8 numbers after "XS" on the bottom of the camera.
    • iris360: The default password is "iris-360."
  4. Open the Street View app .
  5. In the bottom right, you’ll see a blue, linked camera button if you’re connected.
  6. Hold your spherical camera high above your head or place it on a tripod and step out of the way.
    Important: Don’t hold your spherical camera out in front of you since your prominence in an image may cause it to be rejected from Google Maps.
  7. Tap the linked camera button.
  8. On the "Profile" tab, you’ll see a small grey photo. The photo will become full color when it can be viewed or published.

Publish a photo sphere

  1. Open the Street View app .
  2. Under "Private," tap Select.
  3. Choose one or more photo spheres to publish.
  4. Tap Upload .
  5. Tap Publish. You’ll see your photo sphere under "Profile".

Connect your photo spheres

Manually connect photo spheres

To manually connect your photo spheres, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Street View app .
  2. On the “Profile” tab, open a photo.
  3. Touch and hold the spot in the photo sphere where you want to connect to another photo sphere.
  4. Choose a photo sphere to connect to from the list.
  5. To align the photos together, drag your view of the top photo so that it matches the highlighted portion in the bottom photo.
  6. Tap Done Done. To try your new connection, tap the white arrow.

Edit or delete a connection

To edit or delete a connection, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Street View app .
  2. Tap on a small photo to view it.
  3. Touch and hold any white arrow that you want to edit or delete.
    • Edit a connection: Select a new photo sphere or the same photo sphere that you previously selected.
    • Delete a connection: Go to the top right and tap Delete .

Edit a location
  1. Open the Street View app .
  2. Under "Private", tap a photo sphere to view it.
  3. In the top right, tap the Menu .
  4. Tap Set location.
  5. Search for a Maps listing or tap anywhere on the map to move the red pin to the right place.
  6. Tap Done Done.
Add to a Maps listing
  1. Open the Street View app .
  2. Under "Profile" or "Private", look for "Pick a place" at the bottom of any photo sphere that isn’t associated with a Maps listing.
  3. Tap Pick a place.
  4. See a list of nearby places or search for specific place.
  5. Tap the correct Maps listing.
Share a photo sphere
  1. Open the Street View app .
  2. Tap a photo sphere to view it.
  3. Tap Share .
  4. Choose the app you want to use for sharing.
Delete a photo sphere
  1. Open the Street View app .
  2. Under "Profile" or "Private," choose a photo sphere to delete.
  3. In the top right, tap More .
  4. Tap Delete .
  5. Confirm your deletion and tap Delete.
Turn on accessibility features

Android

  1. On your Android device, tap Settings > General > Accessibility > TalkBack. If you don’t have TalkBack installed on your device, you can download TalkBack on Google Play.
  2. To turn TalkBack on or off, tap the switch.

  1. On your iOS device, tap Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver.
  2. To turn VoiceOver on or off, tap the switch.

Android

  1. Open the Street View app .
  2. Tap the menu .
  3. Select Help & feedback.
  4. Tap Feedback.
  5. Fill out the form and tap Send.

iOS

  1. Open the Street View app .
  2. Tap the menu .
  3. Select Report a problem.
  4. In the top right, tap Preview.
  5. Review your comments and tap Send.

Report an image

  1. Open the Street View app .
  2. Find and open the photo sphere that violates the Google Maps Image Acceptance and Privacy Policies.
  3. Tap Menu .
  4. Select Report a problem.
  5. Complete the form and tap Submit.
