Get started with the Google Maps app

Are you new to the Google Maps app? This step-by-step guide teaches you how get set up and learn the basics.

When you finish the guide, you’ll know how to find info about a place and how to get there. And you’ll save time because the Maps app will know your home and work addresses.

1. Save your home and work

Type less by saving your home and work addresses. And then shorten your commute by getting the fastest route.

To save your home and work, you need to sign in to Google Maps.

  1. Open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap Saved Save place. Under "Your lists," tap Labeled.

  3. Enter your home or work address.

Find a place on the map to get directions. Or get info like business hours, menus, and see Street View imagery.

  1. Open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Search for a place or tap it on the map.
  3. Swipe up on the info sheet.

Tip: With iPhone 6s and up, you can use 3D Touch to find a place's website, save a place, find directions, and share a place. To turn on 3D Touch, go to the Settings app and then General and then Accessibility and then 3D Touch. Make sure you turn on 3D Touch. Then, open Google Maps and hard press on a place.
