System requirements and issues

To see 3D imagery in Google Maps, your computer needs to meet the following requirements:

  1. The latest version of one of the following browsers:
    • Google Chrome
    • Firefox
    • Internet Explorer
    • Opera
  2. One of the following operating systems:
    • Mac OS 10.8.3+
    • Windows 7, 8, or 8.1
    • Chrome OS with an Intel CPU
    • Linux (not using Firefox)
  3. Up-to-date graphics card hardware and drivers. See below to find out if your computer meets the requirements.
On a PC? Check your video card hardware and drivers

Your computer's graphics card controls how graphics (pictures, videos, and 3D) are displayed. If your computer uses one of the video cards listed below, your maps won't have 3D images.

Search online to learn how to find out which graphics card you have. You may be defaulted to Lite mode for the following cards:

  • AMD Mobility Radeon 4100
  • AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4200

If you really want to see 3D imagery, learn how to switch to 3D mode. You might be also have trouble accessing the new Google Maps. The following hardware is currently unable to access the new Maps experience:
  • Intel G965
  • Intel GMA 3600
  • Intel Mobile 4
  • Intel Mobile 45
  • Intel Mobile GM45
  • Intel Mobile 965
  • Intel 965GM
If your computer meets the system requirements but you still aren't seeing 3D graphics, the issue might be with your browser. Some browsers block the WebGL technology used to make 3D images. See this list for more information about which drivers might cause issues.

Lite mode

If your computer doesn't meet the system requirements, you'll see a "Lite mode" link in the bottom right corner of the map. Lite mode is a simplified version of Google Maps that doesn't have 3D Earth view and other 3D imagery.
