Requirements for 3D and Earth View

To use the full Google Maps with 3D imagery and Earth view, your computer needs:

  • The latest version of one of the following browsers:
    • Google Chrome
    • Firefox
    • Internet Explorer
    • Safari
  • One of these operating systems:
    • Mac OS 10.8.3 and up
    • Windows 7 and up
    • Chrome OS with an Intel CPU
    • Linux (not using Firefox)
  • Up-to-date video card hardware and drivers. See below for more info.

Check your set-up or use Lite mode

If your computer doesn’t meet the set-up requirements, Maps might not be able to load or might only run in Lite mode. Check your set-up and learn more below.

Update your browser

Maps will run best if you have the latest version of your web browser. Use these links to get the latest version on your computer:

On a PC? Check your video card set-up

Your computer's graphics card controls how graphics (pictures, videos, and 3D) are displayed. If your computer uses one of the video cards listed below, your maps won't have 3D images.

Search online to learn how to find out which graphics card you have. You won't be able to see the map in 3D with the following cards:

  • AMD Mobility Radeon 4100

  • Intel GMA 3600
  • Intel Mobile 4
  • Intel Mobile 45
  • Intel Mobile GM45
  • Intel Mobile 965
  • Intel 965GM
If your computer meets the requirements but you still aren't seeing the full version of Maps with 3D, check your browser. Some browsers block the WebGL technology used to make 3D images. See this list for more information about which drivers might cause problems.
Use Lite mode instead

If your computer doesn't meet the requirements, Maps may automatically switch into Lite mode. To check if you're already using Lite mode:

  1. Open Google Maps on your computer.
  2. In the top left, click the main menu .
  3. If you're in Lite mode, you’ll see a box in the bottom left with a lightning bolt  and "You're in Lite mode."

Use Maps in Lite mode

Lite mode is a simpler version of Google Maps that doesn't have 3D Earth view and other features
