See traffic on the map, and check out traffic by weekday and time of day.

  1. Open Google Maps.
  2. Type "traffic" in the search box. Or enter a place name, for example, "traffic near paris."
  3. Press Enter or click the search button .

You can also see traffic while viewing directions. Click Show traffic on the directions info card when you search for a route.

See typical traffic predictions for a day and time

You can see typical traffic for an area based on the day of week and time of day.

  1. Type "traffic" in the search box. Or enter a place name, for example, "traffic near paris."
  2. Press Enter or click the search button .
  3. Click the button next to “Typical traffic.”
  4. Choose your day and time by clicking and sliding. Your selected day and time appear below “Typical traffic.”

Understand color meanings

The colors indicate the speed of traffic on the road.

  • Green means there are no traffic delays.
  • Orange means there's a medium amount of traffic.
  • Red means there are traffic delays. The more red, the slower the speed of traffic on the road.

If you see gray or blue lines on the map, these lines are your directions routes.

View traffic incidents

When viewing traffic, you can also see traffic incidents on the map. Traffic incidents include several types of delays:

  • Accidents
  • Construction
  • Road closures
  • Other incidents

Click the traffic incident icon on the map to see more details.
