You can now connect to your favorite third-party apps to take actions in the conversation itself (e.g. order food). You can invoke this experience by selecting a third-party that offers conversational actions. If you do not prefer to do it conversationally, you can always continue to order or book directly on the third-party site.
What you need
- Be 18 or over and in the US.
- Be signed in to Google Maps with a Google Account.
- For the best experience, enable history. Without this setting enabled, you can still access Ask Maps but can't pick up where you left off with previous searches.
Important: For now, actions with a third-party app are:
- Only available in English.
- Only available in the Ask Maps mobile app and the Ask Maps web app at maps.google.com. Learn about Ask Maps.
- AI responses may include mistakes. Learn about generative AI and its limitations.
Action: Ordering Food Pickup or Delivery
You can choose a third-party app, ask it questions about the menu, and build your pickup or delivery order.
How it works
- On your mobile device or desktop, go to Google Maps.
- Select Ask Maps.
- Enter your question in the Ask a question bar near the bottom of the screen.
- Example question: “Order thai food near me for dinner”
- Example question: “Help me order sandwiches for a work lunch for 10 people - a few are vegetarian”
- Example question: “Order a pizza with olives and a diet coke from [place name]”
- For queries where you have not yet selected a place, you will receive restaurant recommendations and see an “Order Online” button.
- Once you have selected a particular restaurant, select a third-party app to place your order with:
- Third-parties with “Start order” represent apps you can directly start to order from within the conversational interface. Once Ask Maps has completed your request, you will be directed to the third-party app to complete your order, check out, and manage and track your order.
Important:
- Payment of the order will be placed through the third-party apps. That third-party will be the merchant for your order.
- Google does not handle your orders. Go to the third-party app to check the status of your order, handle any changes, or issue resolution.
- Availability of third-party apps for food ordering vary by location, language, and device.
What information is shared with third-parties
For any third-party apps you select to begin your order within Ask Maps, Google helps you share relevant information with that third-party to process and complete your intended action which may include:
- Relevant order information from your requests. For example, chosen menu items, quantity, and modifications, etc.
