Important: This feature is only available on your iPhone or iPad in certain countries.
You can use 'Screenshot to save' to find places mentioned in your screenshots and save them to a list in Google Maps.
- By default, 'Screenshot to save' is turned off until you choose to turn it on.
- To find places mentioned in your screenshot, 'Screenshot to save' uses Gemini.
Tip: Make sure that your screenshots contain clear text names of places.
Turn on 'Screenshot to save' in Google Maps
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app
.
- At the bottom, tap You
.
- Tap Screenshots.
- To grant Maps access to your photos, after you watch the video, tap Allow.
- Important: To use 'Screenshot to save', you must allow photo access. However, you can choose how much access to provide Maps and change your settings at any time.
- Choose your photos permissions setting:
- To automatically save places from screenshots, tap Allow access.
- To manually upload screenshots, tap Limit access or Don’t allow.
Use 'Screenshot to save' in Google Maps
If you turn auto-scan on, Maps automatically checks new screenshots for place names. You’ll only need to review the places that Maps finds and add them to a list.
You can also manually upload screenshots if:
- Auto-scan doesn’t find any places in your screenshot
- You have older screenshots to review
- You haven’t allowed full access to your photos
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app

- At the bottom, tap You
.
- Tap Screenshots.
- Tap Choose screenshots
.
- Select up to 50 screenshots.
Review and save identified places in Google Maps
To save places to a list, after Maps scans your screenshots, review the places that were found:
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app
.
- At the bottom, tap You
.
- Tap Screenshots
Review.
- Review and take action on each place:
- To add a place to your 'Screenshots' list, tap Save.
- To skip a place, tap Don't save.
- To correct a place’s name, tap Edit
.
- To find the place’s full details page on Maps, tap See details.
- After you review, you’ll get a confirmation message on how many places were saved.
Turn auto-scan on or off in Google Maps
Turn on auto-scanImportant: To turn on automatic scanning, you must allow full access to your photos.
If you turn auto-scan on, Maps automatically checks new screenshots for place names. You’ll only need to review the places that Maps finds and add them to a list.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app

- At the bottom, tap You
.
- Tap Screenshots.
- Tap Turn on auto-scan.
- Read the confirmation message.
- Tap OK.
Important: Turning off automatic scanning doesn’t delete places that you've already saved. To delete those places, remove the 'Screenshots' list.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app
.
- At the bottom, tap You
.
- Tap Screenshots.
- Tap Turn off auto-scan.
- Read the confirmation message.
- Tap OK.
Add or remove the 'Screenshots' list in Google Maps
Remove the 'Screenshots' listImportant: If you remove the 'Screenshots' list, you also turn off auto-scan.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app

- At the bottom, tap You
.
- Next to 'Screenshots', tap More
Delete screenshots list.
- Tap OK.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app

- At the bottom, tap You

- At the top, tap More
