Help Google Maps find my location

If Google Maps says that it can’t determine your precise location, then, you're not in the Google Maps app. You’re using Google Maps through your device’s internet browser, like Chrome or Safari. This message displays if:

  • Your mobile internet browser doesn't have permission to find your location.
  • Your location is turned off on your phone or tablet.

Switch to the Google Maps app

To use features like traffic alerts and turn-by-turn navigation, and to help Maps find your location:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, download the latest version of the app.
  2. Open the Google Maps app Maps.
  3. If there’s a message asking you about location access, tap OK or Allow
  4. If there’s no message asking you about location access, open your device’s Settings, then tap Privacy and then Location Services and turn on Location Services.

Open links in the Google Maps app

If you find information like directions or location information in your browser, you can open them in the Google Maps app.

If the links don’t open in the app:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, clear your cache and cookies by opening the Settings app and then Safari and then Clear History and Website Data.
