If Google Maps says that it can’t determine your precise location, then, you're not in the Google Maps app. You’re using Google Maps through your device’s internet browser, like Chrome or Safari. This message displays if:
- Your mobile internet browser doesn't have permission to find your location.
- Your location is turned off on your phone or tablet.
Switch to the Google Maps app
To use features like traffic alerts and turn-by-turn navigation, and to help Maps find your location:
- On your iPhone or iPad, download the latest version of the app.
- Open the Google Maps app .
- If there’s a message asking you about location access, tap OK or Allow.
- If there’s no message asking you about location access, open your device’s Settings, then tap Privacy Location Services and turn on Location Services.
Open links in the Google Maps app
If you find information like directions or location information in your browser, you can open them in the Google Maps app.
If the links don’t open in the app:
- On your iPhone or iPad, clear your cache and cookies by opening the Settings app Safari Clear History and Website Data.
- In your mobile browser, open Google Maps.
- Search for a location and tap on the name of the location.
- Tap on the address of the location Directions .
- If there's a message to get navigation using the Google Maps app, tap Use the app.
Optional: Keep using Google Maps in your browser
You can decide to use Google Maps on your phone or tablet without installing the app. For best results, share your location with the Internet browser.
Step 1: Turn on location- On your iPhone or iPad, open your Settings app.
- Tap Privacy Location Services Safari Websites.
- Under "Allow Location Access," tap While Using the App.
Safari
- On your iPhone or iPad, open your Settings app.
- Tap General Reset.
- Tap Reset Location & Privacy.
- If asked, enter your passcode.
- Tap Reset Settings.
- Open Safari.
- Go to Google Maps.
- To give Safari access to your location, tap Allow or OK.
- To give Google Maps access to your location, tap OK.
