Why is my email going to the trash box over and over? 0 Recommended Answers 26 Replies 13 Upvotes

Hi,

Many of my emails are automatically going to trash. Specifically, I have an email from a photographer that I know (as part of a listserv) that I need. It keeps going directly to my "trash" folder. I have manually moved it to my inbox about 20x, marked as important, gone to setting/filters and filtered that email address and listserv to "never go to spam" , etc., but the email keeps going to my trash folder over and over and over again. Under "forwarding and pop/imap", the setting selected is "keep gmail's copy in the inbox", so it's not that. Someone please help! I have important emails coming from this address and I need a way to ensure that they don't go to the trash! Thanks!

That's an important clue because Gmail can't move messages around like that.  That means it's being done by something you have connected to your account.

Do you access your account with an e-mail client (Outlook, Thunderbird, Pocomail, etc), a mobile app (iOS, Android, etc), an e-mail notifier, or any other add-on/tool/web-site/etc connected to your account?

Check Settings -> Accounts -> Change Account Settings -> Other Google account settings -> Security (left column) -> Third-party apps with account access -> Manage third-party access.  This MAY work as a direct link:  https://myaccount.google.com/u/0/permissions  .   Have you given account access to any other web-sites or utilities?

Is unroll.me on the list of connected apps?

Please check the Details link below the Inbox (lower/right).  What are all the types of account access listed there (posting a screen-shot may best)?

Same thing happens to me and a helpful google employee helped me set my gmail to its original settings and remove all access from any and all outside programs. Still happens. That is NOT the issue.

Please provide screen-shots for the third-party access page, and the details link pop-up window.  Let's see what clues that provdes.

I already did that with the google employee. The only thing with remaining access was chrome itself. He then asked me to put enroll.me back on there to view the settings. I added Dropbox back myself.

Unroll.me is a well known problem app and if present, is always the cause of the time of message deletion you're experiencing.  I'd remove it (again) and check the account access activity (the Details link I referenced above) to make sure it is no longer accessing the account.

We had removed it completely and it had stayed removed for about a week. It was still happening. As I said, that is NOT the issue.

It isn't removed until you verify it no longer is accessing the account.  Others have had trouble getting it's access truly stopped.

I guess I’m not understanding your “details link” comment then. When we did it, there was absolutely nothing on the access list except google itself.
