I was able to work around this by using the “+” icon instead of going to all pictures.

Tap + to bring up photos.
Select picture to add (I was able to add two)
Now select pictures from the quick pick row

A workaround for now: start with the photos app > select your photos from there > tap the share icon > select the gmail app, and compose your email from there.

Yep, same problem here. Steps to reproduce on iPhone 12 Pro:

Gmail
Compose
Attach
Now try to attach two or more images from the camera roll.

Can't select two. If you attach one and try to add a second you come to the image selection screen and remain there with everything dead including the Cancel button. Sometimes the app crashes.

Very annoying!

I couldn’t find the + tab on my iPhone 12, uninstalling didn’t work, I tried the export tab (Gmail) and the email popped up then disappeared.

The only trick I can get to work is compose an email and attach photos but only use Recent Photos. I get 5-6 pics available.
I then have to copy a later pic again to make it recent if I want to use it.
Do not press All Photos then everything freezes.

This is a real pain and only started for me in IOS 14.2.  Hindsight, don’t update iOS right away and wait for the complaints.
I don’t see a fix coming from Google or Apple.

Same problem for me at my iphone 12 pro max.
But i have also an iphone 7 and there the gmail app works perfect and can attach photos.
I have the same update for ios 14.3 and the same version of gmail 6.0.201115 at both mobiles  iphone 7 and iphone 12 pro max.
So thats is a good info i believe to help somebody to find the solution and to help us

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! I was having the same exact problems described by so many others. I could not add photos to emails crated in Gmail for iOS.  I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max running the latest version of iOS and the most recent version of Gmail.

The fix:
- Uninstall Gmail and reinstall. Make sure it’s not open.
- Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
- iPhone will reboot and clear settings.
- You should be good to go.

You must make sure you allow access to Photos in Gmail settings. Settings >Gmail >All Photos

It sucks that you’ll lose a few minor things; Apple Pay Card, Wallpaper settings.. but the fix worked immediately.

Good luck!

No Need to uninstall and reset all. just goto Settings >Gmail >All Photos ( Allow Gmail to ACCESS )

Selecting all photos does not work

running into same issue.  new iphone 12, and from Photos, selected 4 and try to send by gmail.  it flashes as if it will open a gmail account (not my primary) and then disappears and does nothing.  -- deleting the app and reinstalling did not change anything...but that's because the accounts were not deleted from my Settings - Mail.  **then I noticed that photos was trying to connect to the one gmail account not showing in my Mail accounts. / however i still went through the steps of deleting my gmail accounts from MAIL as well as removing the Gmail app.  ///now I reinstalled the gmail app, and it still remembered my gmail accounts. ---however, I was then able to start in Gmail, compose and attach photos.  / then I was also able to start from photos - and send by gmail.

I just found a workaround. Open Gmail, compose a new email, click on the attachments button and add your photos from Photos, then when they appear in the main body you can click on each one and select "Select as attachment'.
Also I found after doing this I followed the above steps and it just attached them all normally. Selecting and sharing to an email from the Photos app still does not work.
