How to remove saved email addresses from Gmail autofill?

How can I delete such email addresses from Gmail autofill (on Android) that aren't in my Contacts? (The addresses come up when typing recipient email address in the To field but can't be found in Other contacts or anywhere else.) Autofill contacts option isn't turned on. All caches (Gmail, Google, keyboard) have been emptied. Problem only exists in Gmail application. No problem in the browser version.

Hi M12345, all addresses that appear in the autocomplete list are somewhere in your contacts data.  Note that the Android Gmail app will draw on contacts from all accounts that are on that device, not just the account you are sending from.  This will include contact records that are saved on the phone itself rather than in any account.

Thank you for your reply! I tested this with another phone, and the autofill addresses turned up there as well, so it seems that they are saved somewhere in Gmail. But as I said, they can't be found in Contacts. The addresses are such that I have sent email to long ago, so I suppose I have had the automatic saving as contacts turned on back then. But why aren't the addresses on my contact list then? Any ideas how to remove them?
If you have only the one account added to your phone, the contact should appear if you search for it using the search bar at contacts.google.com.  That is the only source of autocomplete addresses for Gmail, but then it would also appear in the browser version.

I noticed that you wrote that you cleared Gmail cache.  It might be useful to also clear Gmail app data.
