My telus email account was just migrated to gmail but Outlook 2013 won't load new emails, I can only access through webmail.  I tried the instructions carefully a few times and they still won't load.  Can anyone help me set up Outlook 2013?

Hi Deborah, assuming that you are wanting to connect Outlook to your Gmail account, when Outlook fails to connect, check first that IMAP is enabled in your account - open Gmail using a web browser at mail.google.com then go to Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP to check.  If everything there is OK and problems started after a power outage or other interruption to your Internet connection, the final point below should be tried first.

If you are using a G Suite account (Gmail with a company domain), you must enable two-step verification (2SV) on the Send As account, because that is the only solution that will work after next February.

If you have 2SV enabled on the account, you will need to use an application specific password (created in the account) in the Outlook settings: Signing in using application-specific passwords

If 2SV is not enabled (only for a gmail.com account), you must enable less secure access: sign into the account using a web browser at https://mail.google.com, then go to Settings > Accounts and Import > Other Google Account settings.  Under Security, scroll down and enable access for less secure apps.  This is essential for IMAP, POP and SMTP connections.  NB: Even if you have checked this before, check it now because Gmail disables this access if it is not in use.

If there is still a problem, try clearing Captcha: visit https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and sign in with the Gmail username and password.  If necessary (it's usually not), enter the letters in the distorted picture then press Continue. This will allow ten minutes for Outlook to register as an approved connection.  Note that you must use the credentials for the account you are adding to Outlook - if the browser is already signed into another account, you must sign out first.  Also, you must trigger Outlook to make the connections within ten minutes of pressing Continue.

Thank you for this solution, I had the same connection problem with my Outlook 2007 client.  After hours of following both Google and Telus solutions, the connection issue was solved by using your link to DisplayUnlockCaptcha. Very much appreciated!!
