Gmail continuously disconnects from the internet in Chrome -- all other sites work fine.

All day today (and possibly before, as I use a couple of different machines/devices when I work from home) Gmail has been repeatedly disconnecting from the internet and not connecting again. I have a wireless connection, but it is steady, and even while Gmail won't load, other websites load fine. When it disconnects, I see the "connecting in..." countdown, which stops at 1 sec every time. Nothing happens when I manually click "try again now." Refreshing the site is the only way to fix it, and it only stays connected for about a minute or possibly less before disconnecting again, getting stuck, and requiring refreshing.

It doesn't appear to happen in anything but Gmail -- Drive and Calendar both seem to be working fine. I haven't changed anything (no new extensions or programs on my computer, no different firewall settings, etc.). I have noticed that the background color of the tabs and bookmark bars in Chrome suddenly changed to a very dark gray/black, and this may have happened at the same time the Gmail disconnection problem began.

This is happening in Chrome--I haven't been able to replicate it in other browsers. I use Windows 10 on a desktop. I can retrieve email from other devices, so I will be able to see replies to this.

Hope someone out there can help, and if you need other info let me know. Thanks in advance!

Just to note that the problem I am having is in Firefox - disconnecting Gmail every about the same time (noonish PDT) day. I have been able to get Gmail back by restarting Firefox. Sometimes with problems, but usually takes just a time or two. I am not having problems with other browsers, but I do spend almost all of my time in Firefox.

Everyone that still have this problem, please check this. When Gmail disconnects, before you go clear the cache, try to open Google Photos. In my case, Google Photos will give me a blank page too. After clearing site data only for "mail.google.com", Google Photos will also be accessible again. Not sure if its only me or not.

I have the same issue so I won't repeat. I have found a simple F5 to refresh the page to be a simple, yet annoying, work around.

#metoo.  Started happening (I suspect) since the last upgrade of Firefox.  This also happens on Outlook (accessed via the site outlook.live.com, not the app), though not as often.

So far I see 230 people with the same problem, none with a solution.

WORKAROUND: Remove cookies.
Click on the menu icon (top right corner) then: Options -> Privacy & Security -> Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data.  Select mail.google.com , click "Remove Selected" then "Save Changes" and confirm.

Return to the Gmail page, and refresh.  It comes back to life, but latest changes made after the point when it got stuck are lost.

Try updating to the last version of Chrome, then restart Chrome, and, if needed, your PC.
I have had 12hours without problems so far

Wasn't having this issue until about a week ago. Now I can only be on for a few minutes and then it drops again. Come on Google, this is really annoying.

I'm having the same problem in Firefox. I get a popup in my gmail saying "Not Connected. Connecting in" with a counter running. Sometimes it will freeze up at 1S and after a bit it starts counting again and shows that it is now at 4:30 for example. like my internet is down. But the internet or rather my modem and router are good, the internet Icon is showing I'm connected. After a bit, 5 or 10 minutes, that counter starts all over again. I can open some of my email. I can open tabs and get into other sites.
If I restart the computer, it will operate as normal for a while, then it will start with that Not Connected counter again.
Is there any fix for this problem?

I tried the Chrome restart but it didn't work for me.  I am forced to shut down Chrome completely and then to reactivate for Gmail to work again. The problem is that it is also affecting my Google Drive and weirdly, even YouTube as well.  Nothing else.  I'm starting to sense a link here.....by the way, my Lenovo laptop is 6 months old so that can't be the problem, not with you all reporting the same problem

I am having the same connectivity issues on my PC and phone. Other emails and the Internet is fine. I have to get up throughout the night to see if I can do business for time-sensitive tasks. I've rebooted, restarted, run malware checks, and still have this issue. Please fix this. I

Having the same problem for a week or so now.  Running Firefox, Win 8.1.  And yes, it seems worse afternoons and evenings than in the morning.
